  1. That's why I said that I also unhooked and plugged the rubber line to the coolant passage. I wasn't contradicting you, just offering another way I found to do it.
  2. I'm really not sure why soooo many people say to plug certain spots with JB weld. When I gave up on my hitachi after 2 rebuilds and did the weber conversion I did everything in a way that is not permanent, just in case I ever want to try putting it back to factory. Instead of putting JB weld in the coolant pool under the carb in the intake manifold, i covered it with the gasket that came with the adapter and slathered the thing in indian head gasket shelak. Then I went under the manifold and pulled and plugged the rubber line that feeds coolant to that passage. As for the carb warmer hole, I can't remember right now how I plugged that. As for the 2 silencers on either side of the engine i used some of the small metal disks that you punch out of a breaker box, slathered those in gasket shelak as well before putting them in and it works great.
  3. Well last winter after rebuilding the Hitachi twice, I got rid of the 5000RPM idle issue but then I ended up with really poor idle. So I finally went with the Weber and it runs like a dream, I changed the general conversion a little to make sure it isn't permanent. I have some small idle issues, but I am contributing those to the fact that my ignition system is kinda jurry rigged at the moment. As soon as I can afford the proper distributor I'm hopeful those will go away as well.
  4. As was mentioned earlier on this thread, apparently the 2 core radiators from the BRZ will fit the older gen cars with some slight modifications to their mounts.
  5. @Ionstorm66 For the ECU issue, try putting an aftermarket one on. I plan to use a megasquirt ECU for more exact tuning on my EA82T. People have apparently already done this on this engine, but in an RX.
  6. @sull you can get brand new water pumps for the 81 and 82 engines from rockauto.
  7. Can you get me the part number for that koyo radiator?
  8. I measured my stock radiator. If I get an aftermarket one and mod the mounts to fit, the main part of the radiator has to be no taller than 14 inches and no wider than 29 and a half inches. Anyone know of a universal radiator around that size??
  9. Could anyone give me a couple examples of aftermarket 2 core radiators that might be modded to fit an xt? Perhaps at least one with similar physical dimensions?
  10. What radiators are you using? I know for a fact that the tanks on both radiators on both our xts are metal.
  11. I have a 2 core that my father bought 17 years ago, but we have another xt we want to restore. It should also have a dual core, we are looking in to taking the stock radiator in to a custom shop and having them add the second row. Step-a-toe, I am unfamiliar with the term std in regards to vehicle parts. What do you mean a std twin core could be modded to fit?
  12. What was the ea82 in? An xt or a third gen Leone? Will the 2 core from the loyale fit in an xt?
  13. I have done some looking and while you can get new tanks for the Leone sedans and the XTs, its pretty much impossible to get a tank for the brats and wagons. My main problem, is that the studs that hold the fuel sender on rust and snap. I am thinking the best route to go, for the brat anyway is to buy plastic fuel cells. If you measure and get the right size you should be able to get even more fuel capacity than stock. You have alot of unused space under the bed near the fuel pump and filter, that is where you can fit some extra capacity with the fuel cells. Hang them from the "frame rails" with self drilling screws and stainless steel bands, then if you feel they need protection from road debris hang some slabs of rubber between them and the road. The rubber belts for grain cups at the local Mill should do nicely. Connect the various fuel cells with rubber lines from bottom to bottom and run them in series. Never done this yet myself, but is something I have researched and highly considered. Hope this helps and good luck.
  14. I have an EA82T in an 86 XT turbo that i'm hoping to give an aftermarket ECU for tuning purposes. A couple of forums I read suggested the megasquirt ECUs, a little more research said the meagsquirt series 2 would probably be the best to use. Is there anything anyone can tell me about this ECU and how it interacts with this engine? Is there major modifications needed to install it to this car, or is it plug-n-play or damn near it? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  15. Yeah, I noticed my little screw up later and edited it. I know none of the BRATs had a 4 speed auto.
  16. I'm comfortable with a fairly high price actually, as I want to keep this car alive. I will save up over time if their really expensive. As for the custom not really stock bit, I just need to know what's closest. I think I know how to get the level sensing working, and as I said my compressor and lines are fines. I'll even make custom mounts for the new struts if I have to. I just need to know what aftermarket struts are closest to the XT so I can hopefully have a fairly easy time making the new mounts, if indeed new custom mounts are needed. Thanks for the info you already provided, as I said all info is appreciated and could very well help.
  17. Hey all. I have an 86 XT Turbo that will need new air suspension fairly soon in the future. I want to keep it stock, no conventional coil over suspension. Anyone know what after market air suspension parts can be the most easily adapted to this system? The compressor, tank and lines are fine just need the struts/bags. Completely stock parts are impossible to find and i'd like them to be less prone to leaking anyway, so any help is greatly appreciated.
  18. From all i know and have learned about these cars none of the Xts had a 3 speed auto, that was the auto equipped BRATs and wagons. Even the early 85 and 86 XTs had 4 speed autos.
  19. sparkyboy, the xt had the compressor and tank located in the drivers side fender in front of the wheel under the battery tray.
  20. I have an EA82T out of an 86 XT Turbo that needs a new fast idle solenoid on the manifold. I have already checked rockauto and not found anything. I have a parts engine I can get one off of, but I was wondering if anyone knows if or where i could get a new one?
  21. I have an 86 BRAT that needs a new oil pump, now I have learned that these pumps are ridiculously hard to get these days. For now I am getting an original replacement pump, however odds are I will have to replace it again at some point in time. Lots of you will probably say to just engine swap an EJ in, but I want to keep this vehicle as stock as possible. So here is the question, does anyone know if it is possible to get an adapter for these pumps? You can get an adapter to relocate the filter, so I'm wondering if there is an adapter to get this engine to accept a different, aftermarket oil pump? Thanks in advance, long live the EA engines :).
  22. That hole could have been installed by a previous owner for an air to fuel ratio gauge.
  23. Well, I did actually find a couple of people through here that could get me a good one. As for the EJ swap, honestly i would never do that. I want to keep my BRAT as stock as I can if at all possible. If I had to, a machine shop said they could make me a new one of the broken piece of the pump for 500, which is still probably less than an EJ swap. If I do end up having to do an engine swap in the future I plan to put an EE20 horizontal diesel subaru engine in. I know for a fact it would fit as it is actually slightly smaller than the EJ engine, then it would get better fuel mileage and I could run it on homemade biodiesel.
  24. Greetings, I had heard that at one point in time a company had made tuner chips for the ECU on an EA82T engine on the turbo XTs. Anyone know where I could acquire such a tuner chip? Or if there are any new tuner chips that the ECU in a XT Turbo would accept? Thanks.
