putting a carb. engine in front of auto. trans.
calebz replied to abcus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Should work just fine if its a 3AT Kind of a waste of a turbo car though -
Right now, the car is about 2 - 2 1/2 inches lower than stock. Not sure how it would work out with stock sized wheels and tires. The WRX wheels actually raised the car about an inch. The springs have approximately 4 inches of adjustment on them. I would like to go just a touch lower, but when I do, the front tires rub on the plastic inner fender-wells. Its kind of a juggling act figuring out how much drop to use with various sized wheel/tire combos. But yes, you could use those springs on a stock setup. Just not sure what the end result would be for height. If I was just trying to get a little bit of a drop on a stock ride. I would use the XT front struts/springs and probably cut 1/2 - 1 coil off the rear springs.

Thanks Its nice to hear things like that occasionally. I like the way it looks too, but it starts to lose its luster when you look at it in pieces in the garage every day for months at a time -

I wouldn't have done it if not for the intercooler. If I ever decide to go to a front mount, that hood will be replaced with a nice stock unmolested one. -
Being a mod has its privileges - being able to see the hidden sub-forums is but one of them

Right on! Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

You know (I can't believe I'm syaing this) That might actually not look too bad.

Sorry - forgot to mention what the actual springs were from. I have gone through so many different parts on that car, I have trouble remembering what half of it is sometimes. Shown in those pics: Front struts - 1988 XT6 Rear Struts - Stock L-series struts Springs - Adjustable coilovers for a 2002-2003 WRX (eBay special lol ) Those coilovers are pretty generic in size (3 inch springs?) will fit all sorts of things. They look like they were made for the rear struts - fit the 05 rears the same way - like a glove. In order for them to be installed on the front, theres a little grinding that has to be done on the body of the strut. This applies to the XT6 and LGT struts, probably the stockers as well.

Probably a good idea. Couple of things that will make your time here a little less problematic. 1 - this is a family friendly site. Personally, I often have my kid in the room while I surf the site. I'm not interested in explaining to her what someone is trying to say when bypassing the swear filter. 2 - The swear filter is in place for a reason. If you can't type it without it getting filtered, don't type it here. 3 - I do take this somewhat seriously for the reasons explained in number 1. 4 - You're new here. Welcome and enjoy. Just remember that this is a big house inhabited by people that have been here a lot longer than you and that there are standards of conduct known to them that might not be known to you. There are two easy ways to find out what those standards are. The first would be to observe and emulate (IE: Are there people swearing, posting porn, posting street racing threads and bong reviews?). The second is to simply do whatever you want and accept whatever consequences there may be. Seriously though - there are some insanely cool people here. Its a good place. Help us keep it that way. Oh - BTW. Anyone here that knows me IRL, knows I am hardly a goodie two shoes. Only when its approriate
-
Yes, we will . The swear filter is in place for a reason. Not nice to call me names. It could definitely have an impact on your continued use of the site.

Here are the coilovers on the stock rear and XT6 front suspension

Yup - Custom. Installed and painted it myself. Had to do something to feed air to the TMIC that sits directly under it. -
Yes, the struts are off a used subaru. Front: 2002 LGT - Legacy GT Rear: 2005 LGT - Legacy GT Swaybars - 20mm - 89 XT6 The wrx wheels are 16x7. Tires (RE92 -blech) are 205/55/16 I got the front 5 lug parts locally from a blown up XT6 Had the rear parts shipped from WA. Add some adjustable coilovers for height control and increased spring rate.

RX front lip and grill. I have the rest, I have just been too lazy to put it on. -

Silverstars are about the best straight replacement IMO (9004ST). Those and a clean set of housings will brighten things up considerably. The housings are often the real culprits when it comes to lighting issues. They get dirty, cracked and all sorts of crazy stuff. -

No sir. RX=Turbo Loyale RS = later model RX knock off - Some were turbos, most not. -

XT front struts will accomplish that as a bolt on replacement I may even have some here. -
Depends on whats cheap for you. My 5 lug swap was about $300 with the adjustable coilovers and WRX Wheels. BTW - going taller/wider tires is a pain without a lift kit. When I was going up instead of down, the largest I could squeeze was a set of 14 inch pugs with 185/75/15s on them. About a 25 inch diameter as opposed to the stock 23 inch diameter. That was on 4wd wagon suspension (the tallest stock EA82 suspension) These days, I have gone the opposite direction. Trying to see how low and well handling I can get it. some 2002 LGT struts up front, fat sway bars, and looks like it will be getting some 2005 LGT struts in the rear soon.

Yup - NA block. I didn't have any more oil than usual when I pulled the IC lines.
-
Even with a can there will still be some blow by. Easiest thing is to route the vents off the can under the car
-
Exactly. And even my mom knows what a Legacy is
-
+1 for breathers. Thats how I ran mine. Though I was considering a catch can setup. Will probably come up with one on the next (read: last) build.

Whats all this 'we' crap? Did you go off and get married since the first post?

If a swap is what you are after, EJ is definitely the way to go. Even in a subaru-dry place like AZ, EJ parts will be 100 times more plentiful than ER27 parts.
