EA81 Hood Scoops
Holy crap.. Its the old red hatch. That poor thing.

EA81 Hood Scoops
+1 for the mustang scoop. They seem to be a really good fit for the EA81 hood, plus they are era appropriate and if done right can look stock. I don't know what the exact dimensions are on the EA81 hoods, but I do know that a WRX scoop is about 4-5 inches too wide for an EA82.. may fit better for you.

It runs, it purrs like a kitten
Your car list says 1982 E82 1.8 carburated.. Is it a 1982 trike, or are you using an EA81? Either way, pics are a must. I love a good trike.

Timing Belt Covers - Yay or Nay?
I just use the seam between the head and the cam case to line up on. Haven't missed yet.

idiot
That looks liek the middle of nowhere. I thought the reason they put roads in the middle of nowhere was so we could do stupid stuff. Now had this been in a school zone, I would have yelled at you

Earth physics and car..
Warming up my lock button. Looks like it is going to get a good workout. Yup, I'm going to be 'that mod'. PS. After I overheat the lock button, I quite often have to immediately switch to the ban button.

Why isn't an EA82 a raging "hot rod"?
I was going to post here and share my opinions of the OPs ideas and the reasoning behind them. Then I read the rest of the thread. I'm taking xmas off. Don't burn the place down. After that, I will probably read this thread, laugh and ************can it.

EA82 weights
Absolutely correct.. except for half of the suspension being completely different.

Turbo Swap
Don't think so. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I am about positive that the FSM rates the turbo pump at 60-70 PSI and the SPFI pump is a bit less than that.
-
Turbo Swap
You are dealing with two completely different fuel and ignition systems. Don't count on anything plugging in and working. Noah is onto something RE: different pump triggering, but its not a difference between turbo and SPFI, its a difference between the 85-86 fuel/ignition system and the 87+ system. Time to bust out the wiring diagrams for each.

EA82t power differences in different countries
Obviously my experience with EDM soobs is limited. However I have seen EGTs on a couple EDM motors, while hearing reoprts that some did not have them (never specifically looked at an XT.. the ones I have seen have been EA82s out of sedans and wagons..difference there maybe?)

Rotary powered AWD rx
Might have been an issue with the one of the turbo oil lines. I tore apart an 87 a couple years ago that got tasted when an oil line crapped and caught fire.

"How many miles do you drive in a year?"
I have yet to have a Subaru reliable enough to go more than about 10k/year. I use the kia for the high mileage stuff. I know it won't break. I average about 30k/year in it.

Differences in pre 1987 EA82T and post 1987 EA82T
Correct.. the euro model EA82 runs on a different set of rules than USDM. IIRC, the EDM models came out at 136hp
-
Differences in pre 1987 EA82T and post 1987 EA82T
Don't think they got any extra power. Definitely not 30.. Maybe 3-4 because of better flow, but otherwise everything is the same as the non spider motors (injectors, fuel pump, boost levels and such)

best lube for getting a coolant line onto a rusty pipe?
That pipe is only held on by one bolt and an O ring. If it was mine, I would take it off and clean it. *shrug*
-
Has anyone made any advancements in their turbo installs?
I thought the 6 used the same injectors as the EA82..

87 GL-10 Turbo AT Rear end falls when...
Change all four and get it over with. Air ride is a pain in the rump roast when it gets to be 20 years old, but then again, many things are a pain in the rump roast when they're 20 Just get four Junkyard strut/spring combos from the wrecking yard and slap them in there. Easy. Mine was converted from air ride to standard struts, then to XT6 parts, then to XT6/legacy mix with adjustable coilovers. About to go 100% Impreza/Legacy stuff
