Killjoy:mad:

My guess would be that it is the securing point for car seat anchors.. Thats what my 90 wagon owners manual said anyway. I even had the little bolt/anchor pieces that threaded in there

CRX A-Pillar pod.. right in the line of sight for easy monitoring:D
-
Yes, they bolt on the same. Only difference is you will have an extra coolant line you don't need, and I will have to drill one out for the coolant line I don't have;) EGR can be removed. Even with the solenoid removed I have never gotten it to throw an EGR code. But mine has always been kinda weird about that stuff.

"Electronic Brain" (ECU) replacement
calebz replied to revbill's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had an ECU go up in smoke a couple years ago. CEL wouldn't come on, got no spark and the fuel pump quit. With the diagnostic connectors connected, the fuel pump should cycle off and on.. mine didn't. that was my first clue that something was not right. -
junk yard yellow ''pen paint'' removal?
calebz replied to karinvail's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I use those Mr Clean sponge things that remove crayons from walls and table surfaces and such.. seems to work pretty well. -
been out of the loop..5 lug convertors..???
calebz replied to Bussaca's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Haven't seen any 5 lug adapter plates in a long time. There was a place in seattle a couple years ago that was making 4x100 and 5x100 adapter plates for peugeots (also 4x140 pattern like our subarus). But I haven't heard anything about them since I moved from that area and sold my peugeot. Besides, they were rather expensive and for the price of the adapters, most of us could do a REAL 5 lug conversion using XT6 parts (which I would recommend anyway since adapters have all sorts of odd tendancies.. from warping, to breaking under too much power, to overstressing the wheel bearings) -
Sorry Jerry, it just doesn't fit.. A few people have torn them down to look, just like what you are doing, but I don't know of a single success in using the LSD chunk in the front diff. Closest thing is a phantom grip.

Factory service manual is the way to go what year / model subaru do you have? I would bet someone has a manual for sale here.. contact me off the board via MSN or AIM (contact info in my profile) and I may be able to assist you somewhat EDIT: just noticed you have an 86 EA82.. My factory service manuals don't cover that far back (only back to 88, so no flapper style fuels system or carb) but I may have something else that could help

Crankshaft Pully MADNESS!! 87 EA82T
calebz replied to NuclearBacon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The haeavier EA82T pulley has a rubber dampener bult into it. I found mine had no locator pin and the woodruff key was a piece of crap. My remedy was to replace it with a pulley from an 87 carb ea82. You are correct in thinking it weighs only half as much.. would have to dig out the numbers, but it was nearly exactly half. Plus, the carb pulley had a locator pinto keep it centered and to stop it from free spinning.. No problems yet. I say any weight you ca remove from the crank is a good thing. I would imagine the free spinning on the outer edge is from the rubber dampener wearing out.. never had it happen on an EA82T, but have had it happen more times than I can count on my turbo volvos -
Yup. That is the truth. I've done it both ways now. Its a hell of a lot easier with the steering column out. the first time I did it I thought I would be sly and leave the column in, but dropped down a little.. Never again..lol
-
Probably wouldn't be too hard to adapt one from an EA82. I think the houseing just has 2 screws that attaches it to the pillar. Would obviously have to get the whole antenna wire that runs under the dash
-
I'll dig the 87+ specs out. I know clayton has an 85, but with him, you just never know what year the motor may be;)
-
85-86 EA82T or 87+ EA82t? IIRC, the cams are different
-
Yup. My tail lights quit. Power steering rack exploded. 3 headbolt holes stripped in the block (found something better than helicoils to fix it though). A whole slew of MAFs. Master cylinder leaked. Tons of other stuff.. I know your car only has 74k, but its still almost 20 years old.. Stuff happens. Thats why the board is here:D

Yup

As far as I know, none of the EJ starters will fit in EA cars

maybe the sway bar? It goes from one side to the other, but is only 16-17mm thick

custom axle info and identity help
calebz replied to wounded brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it was a hi/lo speed turbo car, most likely it was an RX. In which case, morgans first advice applies. There are no 27 spline old school transmissions. If it is an old school (pre legacy) subaru transmission, it will be either 23 spline( non turbo) or 25 spline (turbo).. Referring to manual trasnmissions only
