1989 Subaru GL10 Turbo - Hesitations
calebz replied to jazzician's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The correct answer would be EA82T -
While true, it doesn't quite meet the requirements of the conversation. The trans we were speaking of is not just the plain old D/R, we were actually talking about a FT4WD D/R (such as is found in the RX) as far as anyone has been able to show thus far, they are all 3.70 The Part time D/R (as you have found in your FSM) is a 3.90 Those FSMs sure are fun aren't they? I have gotten tons of use out of mine

Time to take a cruise around the forums and see whats what . There a ton if modding info for your car. Quite os bit of it discussed recently and should be on the first few pages.. PS.. judging by your first post, your 'mech' also seemed to think you had a Legacy motor in there.. you migh want to consider finding a new guy that actually has some subaru experience.. Or buying your current guy some FSMs for christmas or something. -
No problems .. $100 is waaayyy too much for that IC though.. more like $25-30 later when I have more time I can go through the specifics of the install. Or look me up on MSN

Exhaust, intake, intercooler, boost control, suspension work. Where do you want to start? -
I looked.. and then I looked at my own FSMs.. don't see anything that suggests FT4WD D/R with a 3.90

Theres tons of ways to improve performance. the only limit is how much time and money you have. You don't even have to use the search tool. Just scroll through the first 4-5 pages of active threads on the board, I can think of a few threads you will see that will give you an idea of what goes on around here in the search for a faster, better stopping EA82T -
I've only done the RX7.. It was pretty easy once I had everything. Only real 'hard' part was braizing a small tube into one of the lines for the recirc valve. Everything else was just a matter of finding a way to get it all together with what I had on hand. Took a couple hours and a few test fits, but definitely not a very difficult thing.

Yes. It will cause it to sit lower though

Fair Price for LSD Rear end + Rear Discs
calebz replied to 88HatchMonster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
$150 for all that is a good price anywhere. Even for a cheapskate like me. -
What I was talking about is that he says he is using a FT4WD D/R trans in combination with a 3.90 rear diff.......
-
Eh? Why would I disagree.. with the exception of the part about the automatics, you said the exact same thing I did....... I was hoping you might have some input on the gentleman above that has an 88 with FT4WD D/R and a 3.90 rear diff... PS.. I don't disagree with you just for the sake of disagreeing.. I'm not that disagreeable.. I only disagree with you when you are wrong
-
All the suspension parts from the RX are a direct swap for an EA82 wagon if you want the rear swaybar, easiest way is to take the whole traiking arm with the mounts..
-
*sigh* either you are wrong or you are ruining a perfectly good RX. Corky/?
-
No... look up a few posts.. if you don't believe me, find one for yourself to look at
-
short answer.. yes. 85-86 RX part time dual range no locking center diff 87-89 RX FT4WD D/R with locking center diff
-
Doh! forgot to mention the axles.. thanks will
-
Got a dual range coming! questions...
calebz replied to sandman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yup, you will need the N/A 23 spline axles and the 3.90 rear diff that go with the D/R -
Mine has always been lame.. my other wagonas have been a little louder, but none of my soobs have had exceptionally loud horns. I finally decided that I'm just going to put some Hella supertones on it:brow: BTW.. you may try comparing it to the horn volume on you XT6s.. should be the same horns I think

Ok.. from the top 1) the pic of the coil pack is one I found on google.. its a 90+ legacy coil pack. it takes the plcae of the distributor that tthe 89 and older vehicles used.(Australia and japan got the legacy in 89.. US didn't get it until 90.. don't think canada did either. 2) The pics you posted up of an EA82 Turbo motor. Not a legacy Turbo. Sounds like the guy was a little confused. Legacy turbos didn't hit N. America until 91, at which point, the EA82T had been discontinued. 3) Fuel filter.. terribly important 4) timing could be off. to set the timing correctly you must connect the green diagnostic connectors under the dash near the fuse panel before using the timing light. Thats all for now.. gotta run. Will check on your progress later. -
Yup, they were both turbos.. Never even seen a FT4WD 5 speed in a N/A car..They were FT4WD 5 speed with difflock, turbo, 89, one was a touring wagon. Neither had an LSD.. and I seriously doubt either of them has been tampered with.. I just chalk it up to Subaru being inconsistent. No jesus? dammit.. I thought I had found you finally after the 'Thomas' comment

I can't think of anywhere a belt driven compressor could be added without losing existing AC...At least no on an SPfi/MPFI model.. perhaps something could be done on a carb model that has had a bunch of the crap stripped off of it.. dunno. you could go with a compressor/tank for the air suspension.. I guess it depends on just what you intend to run off of it.
