1st gen Legacy, Different Injectors from Auto to Manual?
I need to replace one of the injectors on my aunt's 91 legacy. When I was looking on-line to price out a remanufactured replacement, they list two different part numbers. One is for manual, and one is for automatic. The pictures even look different. Does anyone know why they are different? Keith

EJ25 DOHC Heads
RallyKeith replied to RallyKeith's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSubaru was partially OBDII in 95, and I believe fully OBDII in 96. That is why the 95 EJ22 will swap in place of any 96-98 EJ25.

EJ25 DOHC Heads
I've got a 96 EJ25 with good heads but a loose bottom end, and I've got a 97 EJ25 with a good bottom end and bad heads. I know there is no difference between the short blocks, but are there differences in the heads? Keith

Black Box
RallyKeith replied to neil mc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCharcoal Evap canister for emissions. The older cars have them next to the engine, the newer cars have them tucked under the bumper near the gas tank. Keith

Power steering Difference Question
RallyKeith replied to RallyKeith's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDefenitely not the tires. The GT runs 195/60R15 stock size tires, and the Brighton is running 205/70R15s from an outback. I think I'll just try swapping the pumps between the two cars first.

As the Starter Turns
RallyKeith replied to msmithmmx's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX90 minutes Do you have a Turbo and TMIC? The starter should be a half hour job. It's soo easy to get to on a non turbo car. Also, the dealer in Reading charges $80 an hour labor, so I'd say you saved about $100-$120 between labor and the part probably costing $120-$140 at the dealer.

Power steering Difference Question
So I have a 95 Legacy Brighton Wagon and a 96 Legacy GT Wagon, and I've noticed that the GT's steering is quite a bit heavier than the Brighton's. My fiancé is the one who normally drives the GT, and she hates how heavy the steering is. If I could make the GT's steering as light as the brighton's she would be happy. The question is what is making that difference? Is it the pump or the rack? Keith

No crank sometimes '00obw AT - neutral safety switch?
RallyKeith replied to porcupine73's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust to be sure, the next time it happens don't touch the shifter. Try repeatedly trying to start the car, like once or twice a second for about 5-10 seconds. If it all of the sudden kicks then it is an issue with the contacts in the starter. My 96 with 195k on the clock does this, and I'm pretty sure I still hear the click in the dash when it doesn't turn over. Keith

Stpr 2007
Now, I haven't had any involvement with Rally America since it's inception, but this is a prime example of how RA doesn't really care about most of the people running their rallies. We were not entered as a national entry. We were entered as Both regional entries because you get to run the exact same stages, but save $100. Only difference is that your pionts don't count towards the national championship. So, to see the Regional level results you have to go to the following absurd locations: 1. Main R-A site. 2. "Old Site" link on the right 3. "Live Updates" link at the top 4. "Results" link at the top 5. Change "National" to "Regional" 6. Pick Stage 4 to see the results at the end of the first regional, and pick stage 9 or 10 to see the results at the end of the second. We finished 6th overall in the first regional, and 3rd overall in the second. If we would have been entered into the national we would have been something like 17th overall. I managed to come down with what would later be diagnosed by my doctor as Bronchitis. I had almost no voice on stages 5 & 6, and by the time 8 & 9 came around I was almost useless. It was a shame. 5, 6, & 7 are run in the daylight, and run again in the night as 8, 9, & 10. Normally we would be faster the second time through, but Don not being able to hear at least half of the calls he had to really back off. It's still much better than the past two years. Keith

'95 Legacy: Interference Engine?
RallyKeith replied to dave833's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX95 is non interference, and it is also roller rocker! It is probably the best year for all the 2.2s 204,000 miles on mine and running strong!

96 Legacy GT Wagon with 4EAT Speedo off 15%-20%
RallyKeith replied to RallyKeith's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo, it doesn't do anything crazy. The drive ratio better be the same. I bought the car with a bad transmission, and the replacement unit was bought based on the car VIN, and the numbers matched between what came out and what went in.

96 Legacy GT Wagon with 4EAT Speedo off 15%-20%
My 96 Legacy GT Wagon's Speedometer is reading fast by 15%-20% That means when it says about 36, I'm only going 30-31, and when it says 70, well I'm only going about 55. It has what is supposed to be the correct 4EAT transmission. The speedometer is original, the tires are the correct size for the car and have about ½ their tread on them. What could be causing it to read soo far off, and does anyone know how to fix it? Keith

Looks like it's just Co-Driving for now, but I'll still be there. Simply ran out of time to take care of everthing that would have been required for me to drive. Insurance companies suck...

Death of 1,000 cuts: rusted brake lines on 97 Legacy
RallyKeith replied to dromond's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI just replaced the gas tank on my 95 which spent it's life in NH until 2005. NH salt and sand KILLS cars. My gas tank was rusted out from it, and in the process I discovered that my rear cross member was also rusting out. I had to replace a section of one of the brake lines due to fatigue from rust. Replacing the gas tank required me to "drop" the brake lines some and in the process the one broke from rust. I don't personally see how you could properly replace the fuel lines with out removing the gas tank, and removing the gas tank is not all that easy. Keith

Northeast NATIONAL Meet Carlisle PA May 20th Register with our club, please!
Well, at this point I'm not sure how early we will get there. It's been a long week for me and the lady, and this is my first day back in the country since Cinco de Mayo. Right now I'm thinking we'll get there around 10:00 saturday, but then leave around dinner time. The only real question is do I bring the 05' GT or the 96 GT with the 2.2 Swap???? Keith

Stpr 2007
Yeah I'll be there... competing This is actually my first Rally-America event ever. When Rally-America took over from the SCCA I didn't maintain my license. I've been doing only NASA events since then. So I'm currently working on my licensing, but I'm hoping to run the first regional with my father co-driving, and co-drive the second regional for my father. Have to wait and here from them. Keith

New Clutch, still slipping???
RallyKeith replied to lmdew's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhat did the flywheel surface look like? We just had one where there were slight ridges on the internal and outer edges of where the clutch makes contact to the flywheel. These ridges made a brandnew disk and pressure plate still slip.

Thin or fat tires?
