  1. Can one use a fuel pump meant for the multi port EFI on a single port EFI??? what is the difference between them? Seems the mpfi pumps are quite a bit cheaper than the spfi pumps and I just cant see spending around $200 on a pump if I can get one that will work fine for $90! the original pump had rust issues - got a used one but not in much better shape and suspicious of it not operating correctly - barely any fuel reaches the throttle body. looking to get a new one, but geez are they expensive!
  2. well, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am Soooo jealous!!
  3. well, redid the belts taking extra care to be sure that the cam sprockets were lined up correctly before, during and after installing each belt and tensioning....still no run...cranks over and backfires :-\ just as added info on this project - fuel tank and fuel pump have both been replaced (both used), as was the big fuel filter under the hood (new).... if I pull a plug it is damp and smells of gas, so am guessing fuel is getting into the cylinders.... disty was never removed, but did get new cap and rotor along with new plugs and wires...... Miles - if i am understanding your instructions, i would pull the disty, then line up the drivers side cam to 12, then rotate to 0 deg BTDC and re-install the disty so rotor is pointing to #1 position - right? might be the weekend before i can get back after this thing - too much other stuff going on thanks for the replies guys!!
  4. Is it possible to have a cam sprocket out of whack? (ie - somewhere along the line the thing was removed then not put back on in the proper orientation?) Have been working on this car (89 GL wagon, ea82 spfi) - on and off - for a couple of months - as time allowed....installed new timing belts per the proper directions (found here and used succesfully before), and the car spits, sputters and backfires Just wondering which way the disty rotor should be pointing when the drivers side cam is at the 12 o'clock position - at this time it is pointing at the battery.... help??
  5. not too bad, BUT... my 1989 GL wagon with 189,000 (and counting) regularly gets over 30 mpg on regular unleaded running about 70 mph going back and forth to work every day. I am putting approximately 500 miles a week on this car - fuel mileage ranges from 30.2 and 31.4 mpg...have gotten as high as 31.8 mpg....also uses about 1 qt of oil a week!! Now if you were to get something like 35 mpg, then I would really be impressed!
  6. Be cool, be safe!! And thank you to you, and all our guys and gals in uniform, for protecting our freedoms! God speed and God bless.
  7. yer welcome! nearly forgot to take the darn pictures, been a rough week all ready!! And yeah, it is a silly name, but they definitely work!!
  8. ok, hopefully the pics show up... 1st one is the snuggy itself 2nd one shows how it fits on the wiper arm.
  9. Yes, the snuggies were originally made for big rigs, but many "drivers" have taken to using them on thier personal vehicles as well (myself included) and have passed the things on to friends and family too. That is why I mentioned them being available at most truckstops - you will have better luck finding them there than the auto parts places. 3 or 4 bucks sounds about right on the price too - not terribly expensive and they work great! Have one on my Subie's driver side wiper now (gave the other one to mom who was having the same problem with her chevy!) Will try to snap a quick pick tomorrow - too dark out now...
  10. I've said it before, I'll say it again - little item called a wiper snuggie. Clips onto the wiper arm and pulls it in toward the windshield. comes in either chrome or black finish, sold in pairs and available at some auto parts stores, and most truckstops (big trucks have this problem regularly due to thier aerodynamics - or lack thereof) can post a picture of them installed if ya want - just ask.
  11. Spybot and Adaware are for "spyware" removal...they wont do a darn thing for overloaded temporary internet files or cookies folder. and neither will running the built in windows utilities for that matter. Altho disk cleanup will remove some stuff, it doesnt clear it all out. The ONLY way to clean out ALL the crud is to go in and do it manually. I ran disk cleanup regularly, thinking this was clearing out the crap...boy was I surprised to find it wanst even getting 1/4 of it! went in and did the job manually and cleared out over 2500 "files" from both my temporary internet files, and the cookies folder. After that, I fired up the laptop I got from my mom, and cleaned out over 6000 "Files" from it!!!!!!! If you do go in and clean things out manually, I highly recommend restarting into safe mode, and running scandisk, then defrag. ps: if you do try to clean out the temporary interent folders manually - DO NOT delete any files called desktop.ini or index.dat!!! you have been warned
  12. Sweet price for a full length decal...as long as it looks good. You may want to ask to see some of thier other work before ordering tho - just to get an idea of what kind of job they do. Keep us posted!!
  13. just for the record, my bone stock 89 GL wagon (only mod is a cherry bomb muffler) will regularly "break loose" in third gear when I jump into it, and I just put new tires on two weeks ago! really seems to like the asphalt type pavement, but will do it on concrete too, wet or dry!!
  14. I also have a cherry bomb on my 89 GL wagon, and I LIKE it!! Makes a nice growly sound when downshifting!! A little louder than stock, but not annoyingly so. When I put mine on it was do something quick and cheap as the original coffee can muffler fell apart!!
  15. Thats why I wont deal with NAPA at all...here anyway... they are way overpriced, and act like you are really bothering them when you come in...Then take great joy in telling you they dont have what you need.
  16. Is it safe to assume that it will be the same situation on an 89 wagon??? I know, i know - bad things happen when you assume!!
  17. we have an 89 GL dual range wagon as well! must not have been that uncommon...
  18. Thanks John. We do try to keep things as close as possible to oem on our Subies. Gonna pull the tank from the parts car first to see exactly what we have there. From looking at it underneath, it seems to be in way better shape than the one on the d/r car. But need to get it out of there so we know just what the next step would be. If it looks pretty good all around, will get it cleaned out good and checked over, then stuff it under the other car. :-p We were hoping to get the d/r up and running by now, but have run into some minor setbacks here and there, the fuel pump and gas tank being the latest...so far we have !. put in new timing belts 2. resealed the oilpump 3. complete new brake system in front (rotors, calipers, pads, and flex line) 4. new shoes and hardware in back 5. "new" coil bracket/ignition amp (thanks Calebz!) 6. new coil 7. new NGK's, wires, cap and rotor 8. changed battery cables (used ones from parts car, but in very good condition) Tried to fire it up last week and had fuel dumping all over from the fuel pump area, so went to change the little round thingy under there, and geez, what a mess. The mounting plate for the fuel pump was so rusted, it fell apart trying to get it out of there! needless to say the fuel pump itself doesnt look so good either (we have one coming from gabe, thanks gabe!) Stole the mounting plate from the parts car - looks decent enough to use. So now we are looking at replacing most of the fuel delivery system, pump, tank, and lines as needed! I sure hope this car lives up to all the effort and parts going into it!!!
  19. Thanks for the replies, gang!! Will be changing it out I guess. Wont know how far gone the original one is till we get her outta there. Will decide what to do with it then.
  20. We have an 89 GL wagon with the dual range 4whl drive that we are trying to get roadworthy, and has a leaking fuel tank. it appears to be leaking right at the seam at the back edge. We also have an 88 GL wagon parts car with the p/b 4 whl drive that the gas tank appears to be in much better shape.... Will the tank from the 88 fit the 89? how big of a pain is it to pull the tank on either car and is this a worthwhile endeaver? or should we just try to "repair" the existing tank on the 89?
  21. Looks Good! I always did like the "raked" look on a car.
  22. Really nice find there, guy! very nice seats, and matching seatbelts, too! way cool! Can I ask ya a favor when you go back out there? grab a couple of coil brackets with the built in ignition amp?? Dont necessarily need the coil itself, just the bracket part. Would gladly reimburse you for the parts and shipping to me. We (madkow007 and I) have a lack of junkyards with old Subies, and desperately need at least one of these little darlings that works! The one in my car died about a month ago, have the only spare we had in there now. His car needs one now as well. Congrats on the great find!!
  23. Use Autolites in the ol Ford pick-em-up truck and the NGK's in the Subies. Champion??? might stick em in a Chevy.....
  24. Way sorry to hear of the major malfunctions, guy. Definitely get your ducks all in a row and go after this yahoo idiot!!! ESPECIALLY if he has a business license, but even if he doesnt, get him for everything you possibly can. there is NO excuse for that kind of negligence, or the raping you took on the clutch kit. Granted I dont have an xt, but when I had my clutch done, did both front axles at the same time too, total cost was $628, give or take a couple bucks - just over $120 for the clutch and right at $100 each for the axles, the rest was labor. Have had NO problems with them either & this was done 2 and half yrs ago by a reputable shop (and this was the first Subie thay had done too!) You may even want to try talking to a lawyer yourself - some will take cases on contingency - they dont get paid unless you win....worth a try anyway. either way, take this jackoff for everything you can! Good Luck!
  25. RMVR53 - The pugs let you get a larger size wheel, 14" and 15", without any major modifications to your car - ie stock lug pattern (15's might need a little body work for clearance depending on the tire chosen). and yes they are a bit wider, which opens you to a broader range of tire choices. Not 100% sure which years/makes will fit, but am pretty sure the 80's 505 series do. Others would know more on this one. And TGW - thanks for posting that place's name and phone!!
