Matt tells me there is a stupid "safety" feature that disables power to the fuel pump in a collision (or any other random inconvienent time) somewhere under the dash. I would much like to bypass this thing so hopefully my pump will fill up with fuel when I crank her over (I have clear lines so I know there's no gas getting in there) Hmm, maybe I should put a light up toggle switch in there to manually activate it!?

One was one I'd seen before and talked to the owner, it's red and blue, has diamond plate and a hood scoop, and the heaviest looking homemade rollbar I've ever seen, it was being pulled by a truck - and had no driver. Right behind it was another Gen2, with T-tops - that had just been crushed on the roof. Looked like someone dropped a Justy on it or something. Someone had fun, I want details!

too cold for proper grammer. i can use starting fluid or pour gas down the carb and then start it, it will idle rough at like 300rpm for a few moments and die, or i can floor it and it will rev up (i let off at 4K since its cold) but as soon as i let off the gas it dies, will not respond further to throttle. i thoughyt the fuel filter was clogged, but i broke it open and it looked fine, replaced it with a new one. new filter isn't filling with gas, is the fue l pump in the tank? oh this bothers me it's so cold out oh yeah and ive been awake for 25 hours yay come on global warming, hurry up!

WOW! That is one very nice looking car with a very well thought out design! I am wondering about the gears - 5 speed FWD transaxle right? - don't electric motors make their peak power at zero rpm? So do you shift at all, wouldn't it be more efficient to leave it in fifth? Then again, I'm not the electrician you are. Congradulations on succesfully creating a truly green car, something even Honda and Toyota have still yet to do!

Advice on buying an ’85 Subaru GL Sedan
SakoTGrimes replied to mark bellhorn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
With only 45K on the clock I can't see even a poorly built autobox going out, especially if the car is well kept. Even if it does, you can always have the joy os swapping a 5spd d/r. -

Hey Randall I think you're tight about the fuel filter. I got it to start today with starting fluid but when I gave it throttle it would'nt respond, so I think it's clogged with gunk. My dad is going to use his work van to pull it to my apt tomorrow where I can put a heater under it and work on the fuel lines. Connie, what's a CTS? Does my car have one? Never heard of it -

I'm just going to use this thread for misc stuff rather than make new ones. I had trouble starting her again in the cold after work. I got the starter to turn over fine and she started and ran fine for a minute but then stalled and wouldn't restart. I figured pumping the gas a bunch of times and then waiting a few seconds for evaporation would do the trick but no. I gave up and rode home with the girlfriend. I'll be back in the morning. This whole difficult cold starting thing has got me thinking about going SPFI/MPFI. I know MPFI offers better power, do you lose any mpgs? I don't care about hp much, but reliability is important to me as well as milage. How much work is involved in a fuel injection swap? Ever since owning a diesel, fuel injection isn't so frieghtening to me. I still don't know how gasoline injection works though, is it injected into the intake manifold above the valve during opening? Oh, and I just bought a copy of HTKYSA! Thanks dudes and ladies. -
Pros and Cons of Dual Range VS. AWD ??
SakoTGrimes replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In my personal opinion, old Jeep/truck style 4WD is superior than AWD for extreme conditions (ice, deep snow, mud) I would much rather have all my wheels spinning at the same rate so when one catches traction it can be useful in moving the vehicle, rather than AWD, which can cut power to tractionless wheels. -

I gave her $100 on Friday and I'll give her another 100 next Friday, maybe 25-50 the next week. -
Subarinos Hatch... Update

Yes that's what I was talking about. I'm glad to know it wasn't that car that got killed. -

Well I rode my bike several miles in the freezing cold the other night to pick up the car. It runs pretty good, no TOD or rackety engine noise like my Loyale, 254K miles. They said it had a new axle, new t-belts, lots of new stuff. It needs a new stsrter now though, I'll try to get another tomorrow before I go to work. Pretty hard to start in the cold, not sure if the carb needs work or if a new battery and starter will solve that. I'll get some pics up, she's really clean inside and out. -
There's an XT (non turbo, ER27) at the local junkyard, will it's statrer work in my 87 wagon? I'm pretty sure it will but I want to be sure before I buy a non-returnable part.

My mistake, I knew I saw it somewhere online

I think I saw that on CL last week, right?

Subarinos Hatch... Update
SakoTGrimes replied to SuBaRiNo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Whoa whoa whoa whoa..... whoa.... wait a sec..... is that "Hatchy?" I read that something very unfortunate happened to that car a while back but perhaps I was reading about another hatch? -

OK, instead of the Audi she got a V6 Thunderbird. Today being payday I went to her and asked if I could buy it, although now they want $150-300. Weak! We'll see. -
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I didn't know where else to place it. I was at the JY today and noticed a B210 with a small straight axle. Wasn't the B210 very similar to the 510 and if so might it use a 3.90 ratio? Just curious if anyone had ever used this particular diff in the back of a Subaru. I'm still a long ways off from solid axling my Brat so I'm not going to bother with it this time.

I've got an 89 Corolla Alltrac with the 1.6 4AFE that suddenly won't start. I've had it for 2 and a half months and only driven it about 10 times but it's never had a problem. It turns over just fine but doesn't start. Spark plug looked good, it has gas, I dunno what to do!

Anyone see the Brat in the magazine?

Right on time, as promised, here it is! hehe
