What's a sticky?

The regular street tires on the 92 Loyale wagon are getting worn and slowly loosing air. I'd like to get some tires that will be good for both daily driving (as in not 42" swampers) and light mud/dirt/snow for around $300. What brand/tire place do you guys recommend?

Reminds me of a story I read in Car and Driver or one of "those" mags. Abbreviated version: Guy buys a new Buick in the 60s. It keeps making a rattling noise. He takes it back to the dealership, they can't figure it out. Owner of dealership offers the buyer the use of his personal car for the weekend while they figure out the rattle. Buyer goes camping with family and returns on Monday. Dealership mechanics found a Coke bottle in a rear quater panel with a note in it saying "rattles, don't it?"

Just when you think you've seen it all

Hey, that guy stole my idea!!!!! -
I drove up to Anderson Butte today, with my Raleigh in the back. The idea was to ride to the top of the 5 or so mile and blast back down it at frightening speeds. Shortly after starting up the hill, I decided to just drive the whole way due to being a wimp. Anyway... I get to a point where there's no more elevation to climb on the main road, but there's lots of side roads that look fun. Most are private property, but maybe 5 are not. I knew my Subaru was good. I knew it was well-built and more capable than your average station wagon. But before today I never really knew how freakin amazing it was. Of course the pictures make a 45* angle look more like 20 and so on. When I climbed that gravel pile I couldn't see the ground, discouraging me from climbing one twice it's size. The Butte is in the Jacksonville, OR area, off of Griffin Creek road. Turn left just before a sign that says "Semi traffic not reccomended" Do it! Do it now!

I haven't seen many yellow BRATs, most seem to be maroon. WRC blue would be really cool, of course only Subaru nuts would get it. Tiger stripes you say?

no way out...(very long!)

Never I thought I'd say this, but.... come to Oregon. There's virtually no regulations for 20+ year old cars. If it has a windshield and doesn't spew black smoke its good -
I can't belive there isn't more talk of these on the board... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6467&item=4552654599&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW i like australia. yay for me

My Loyale's stereo was stolen

I'm now thinking: 2,000,000 SHU law enforcment strength pepper spray, string, doors. Use your imagination. -
After the Avalanche throws a rod, gets it's engine rebuilt, drives around town for 6 more years never seeing a dirt road, it will be sold because "it's so old!" to some punk kid for dirt cheap who will race it and throw more rods, in addition to the other Chevy crap programmed to break, it will then be parked in someones back yard for 19 years. The Avalance will finally go to the crusher on December 14, 2031, completely rusted, not running, with no original paint remaining on it's hull, it's cheap plastic bed parts bleached white. This same day, said Baja will tick over it's 300,000th mile. I like doing that.

I want to get the engine bay of the Loyale looking all nice and clean. What type of cleaners do you guys recommend? I powerwashed it at a quarter-sucking machine, but it's still greasy and stuff.

does anyone know this oil + link...
SakoTGrimes replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have never used it personally but I see it advertised as "high performance" and the local rice burner shop sells it to the kids who like to rev the piss out of their Hondas. -
Yep. I'm pissed. Some scumbag opened up my car and took it. Wasn't an expensive unit but it sounded pretty good. At least they didn't destroy any locks or windows, and they left the CDs, cash and my licence and debit card. I'll be buying the Pioneer from my old Merc to put in it. And of course, the faceplate will travel with ME from now on.Grrrrrrrrr

got pulled over in my soob
SakoTGrimes replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey, I'm not saying it wasn't dumb, because it was. But holy hell, it's costing me thousands over a 7 year period. Hope they felt real good about making an example of the first time offender. -

I appreciate cops. I really do. Nobody has to put up with as many a-holes and their BS as they do. The one that pulled you over was probably just being a wongleflute. Like the one who gave me a reckless driving ticket ($3000 base fine) for going about 60 in a 30 at 12:19AM with no traffic. My first and only ticket. 90 day licence suspension. $410 in DMV+ court fees. Insurance increased by about 85%. I don't pay it anymore since I can't afford it. Nobody will hire me for a driving job until I'm at least 25. Not even washing cars. F*** that cop. And f*** that judge. -
Hit my first mud/snow in the Loyale
SakoTGrimes posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Drove up to Mt. Ashland after work today. Surprisingly long road to get there (never been before). Had fun, spun wheels in snow. Found a muddy "field" between Action Video and a Minute Market (Columbus and McAndrews) that was fun to make the car go in directions it wasn't pointed in. Yay. Live in Medford/surrounding area? Know where there's good mud? E-mail me. -
New Subaru (EA82) owners: Things to fix
SakoTGrimes replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the great post. I was wondering what that little switch on the sterring column was. My lights work all the time though. I will do lots of the little crap listed if don't decide that sitting around all day is more important. Hmmmm. Tough one. -
Subaru Preservation Fund?
SakoTGrimes replied to s'ko's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
If I had some spare money and knew for sure it was the real deal I would/will donate. Preserving old cars is one of the most important things. Ever. New cars suck. Usually. -
tested my new rims on the wagon
SakoTGrimes replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Dude, sweet wagon. A body it has never looked better on an old(er) Sub. Reminds me of a Gen-1 BMW M3. -
I traded my Merc' for Subadooms 92 Loyale - 5 speed push button single range. Ive put about 105 miles on it since I got it about 50 hours ago and am really loving it. Took it for some light off-roading on a big dirt pile behind Hollywood Video. Has power windows, something a trip to a junk yard will fix.
