Let The Carnage and Mayham Begin...
SakoTGrimes replied to xoomer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those shop lamps (yours was an orange plastic one with a cage I presume?) are the devil. I've dropped one from literally a few inches with a brand new bulb and it popped. Major design flaw or something. -
Most newer BIMMERS are meant to cruise at high speed. Getting there isn't so quick, but a BMW is a hell of a lot more stable at 120 than any Subaru will ever be. If he just wants to compare top speed then the BMW will take the cake, but last time I checked a 7er weighed about 4400 lbs and those 5.0 V12s weren't really all that powerfull.

super important update: I cleaned the kitchen, the turbo now resides on the living room floor next to the tools... more to follow

Fun At The Subaru dealership!
SakoTGrimes replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Bust up just ONE body panel on his 2004 Buick (or whatever) and watch him sell it for $2000 -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-Isetta_W0QQitemZ4563452975QQcategoryZ6056QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It has an engine from a "1980 Subaru" I assumed it was an EA81. Who knew you could put a flat four in a car disigned for a 20 something horse single cylinder? It was probably pretty fast when it ran.

As far as I know most if not all dealerships are bogus. They know next to nothing about cars, they sell leather and A/C, not engines and transmissions. They want you to buy buy buy and never come back unless you intend to buy more. That's how they make money. Sad, true. You have been wronged and although I would like to see you win in small claims court against them, that's not likely. My advise would be to buy an old Soob (you just can't trust modern electronics) from a reputable board member and avoid dealerships completely. Also, what dealership is it so we know to stay away?

Whos Got the Most Miles

You took a picture while driving 92 mph. That justifies a medal in my book. 85 is scary enough in my Loyale. -
That is a nice shiny wagon. You know what to do.

If everybody in the world drove small, rear wheel drive cars there would be no hate, no war, no predujice. Everyone would be happy and sing and dance together and... um sorry, I lost my thought there..... Oh yeah; low weight + RWD = performance. Ask ThreeEyedBandit about his formerly turbo'd Justy. Unfortuanetly, the turbo now lives on my kitchen counter.

Unpleasant electrical problems
SakoTGrimes replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Silly me. I realized today that the reason 4 fuses blew at the same time was because I was trying to wire up the stereo with the battery still connected. Durrrrrrrr! -
photoshopping my wagon

I really like that first one. It looks like someone used dirt and charcoal or something to draw it on paper. Not saying it's dirt haha just looks "earthy/natural" -

If it's really heavy rain and the humidity is high you might just be getting moisture in the engine. My carb'd 2002 does that. Ask me why my 2002 is carb'd. It's my favorite game : ) -

Get a new one from eBay. I got a 0-100psi one for like $17 shipped. I'll get around to putting it in one of these years -
John is the guy I talked too. I'm too inexperienced to do it myself and 400 sounds like a good deal, but I'm kinda strapped right now. Just a few more temp jobs I keep telling myself. Just a few more...

It's probably just a fuse or something, but I wanted to get as much info as possible before I go try to fix it in the daylight of tomorrow. My taillights, hazard switch, gauge cluster lighting and automatic seatbelts stopped working at the same time. Good thing I didn't fly into the ocean. I can get the running lights on by using the steering column switch. I tried switching the indicated fuse with another 15A but it was getting dark and I was waiting to pick somebody up in the mall parking lot so I dodn't have much time. I pulled the engine meter fuse while the engine was running. Anybody else who's done that probably knows what it does. Any ideas?

It's slow on takeoff, I roasted it pretty good getting unstuck.

I need a new clutch, it's mushy. Northwest Automotive who specializes in Subaru quoted me at $400. This includes new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, and a new rear seal (transmission?) He said he would use genuine new Subaru parts. Sounds like an OK deal to me. Opinions?

The other day I took my lady's little brother wheelin' n John's Peak - see: "took the Loyale 4wheeling... for real this time" - I was amazed how well my car did. At one point I got a little lost and thought "Hey, I think this trail goes back to the one we want to be on!" Well, that trail apparantly hadn't been used in about 10 years or so and contained a fallen tree, but Darth Soob (temporary name) went through it just fine. The next day I washed it and got about 3 pounds of mud from above the front skidplate... all of it from the previous day. Getting sideways in mud is a blast

About California: I went to the Mercedes dealer to see if they were selling the new 320CDI since I was told that they wouldn't be sold here at all. Well, CA, NY and 3 other backwards states have banned the ultra clean burning diesel that pumps out 369 lb. ft. and gets 37 mpg, but not good ol Oregon (ha!) When will the "environmentalists" learn? My Loyale is i burning rag soaked in raw kerosene compared to any new diesel VW or Mercedes. I think if Subaru sold a long stroke diesel engine it would sell like crazy. Top it off with a standard d/r 5 speed, manual windows, and air-conditioning as an OPTION and I bet plenty of USMB members would sell a kidney to get their hands on one.

I'll need to do a lot more mild mudding and trail riding before I get cocky enough to make all 4 wheels leave the ground. Only 2 at a time for now

So my stepdad keeps telling my that my car is not a Jeep (duh, it still runs) and that if I offroad it a bunch I will bend the unibody. Do we really need to worry about this happening, and if it does, would it really screw the car up that bad anyway? I dunno, that why me ask

92 loyale engine question- please help!
SakoTGrimes replied to cndymyfrnd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What about the ignition? Maybe the cap/rotor is worn out?
