Weight of different car models
SakoTGrimes replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Truck weigh stations aren't accurate in my exp. I weighed my BMW 2002 in at 2200 pounds. The manual says 1340KG, which is about 2900 pounds. -

My 68 Jeep weighed about 5300 pounds -
Well, in a few months I MIGHT sell 98% of my possesions and begin the process of moving to Australia. Might is the key word here. I'm browsing eBay Australia and I've got a towel handy for drool spills. Oh man, Oz got some sweet Subs. Looking at a d/r 1991 Loyale equivalant right now, although I'd probably end up in an early 80s Leone. If I don't move, an extended holiday is a definate anyway. Rock on mates! Oh yeah, and if any Australians want to post some info on living down under, they will officially be "rad" in my book.

Loyale stalled, won't restart
SakoTGrimes replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Both timing belts only have about 5500 miles on them, but I will check that tomorrow. What difference would it make if the passenger side belt broke? Is that screw on the rotor itself or is it underneath or someplace? -

I have not checked for spark or fuel delivery. How's that done? I checked the oil level th morning after, so I'm sure the filter is full now. -
Yesterday I changed the oil (much easier the second time) I thought I put in 4.5 quarts but the dipstick looks like it has about 6. I started the car at 5:20 this morning and it made all kinds of bad whining noises. I figured the engine was just dry and the oil was cold so I went inside to get some things while I let the engine get warm. When I went outside (about 3 minutes later) the engine was off and I couldn't get it to restart. Plenty of charge, the oil is definately still in there. Could overfilling it prevent starting? Help!

About 2 feet is probably going to be the maximum for me. Does my 92 Loyale have a distributor? I thought it was all electronic.

I'll get 5 15's from Loopy in Corvallis in October (I hope) Not sure yet if I'll get ugly smooth ones or fancy ones but they'll be 15's. In case they say "Make me an offer" when I ask the price, what do you guys think I should offer? I figure if I say $50 and they don't like that at all they might charge more than they originally would. Don't want that. What's a fair price per wheel? Are different styles more/less valuable?

1975 Subaru 1400 (Pics)
SakoTGrimes replied to Harvester's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Some people think "the motors blown!" at the first sign of trouble and they have enough money to go out and replace it. I saw an almost mint EA81 d/r wagon at a junkyard, only the key wouldn't turn. -
Reading a "Subies can swim" thread inspired me to do some water crossings of my own. I'll take precautions, but I know eventually that SPFI EA82 will get wet. What do I do then? Is it safe to run the engine? Will I need to change the oil or use an additive? Will just a little water do significant damage? It'd be good to know before it happens. Thanks

3.90 to 3.70 swap worth doing?
SakoTGrimes replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I guess "not worth it" is the answer I'm looking for. Something spinning around 50 times per second just seems so fast to me. -
I don't like going down the freeway at a shrieking 3500 RPM. How much extra gearing would getting 3.70 diffs get me and how much on average does it cost?

Cheap muffler replacement
SakoTGrimes replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So what's an easy way to mount the mufflers? Back when I had me a 'Maro I sorta just c-clamped it on which didn't work out so well.
