  1. Grind the crap outta that rust, clean it up the best you can and weld U shaped 1/4 inch steel reinforcers right over those unibody framerails.
  2. I've come to the conclusion that I am developmentally disabled, as nobody's detailed descriptions have made sense to me. Fortunately Sean lives right next door to me and can help me get this done tomorrow. So, what are rear Subaru diffs just uber-pussarific? Seems like it should be just as strong and last as long as a FWD transmission if you drive normally.
  3. I don't have low range, I just want my pickup to be a little more truck like and spin the rears instead. Won't be doing too many sick burnouts with 65hp though. So.... pull the rubber cup off the axle, pry out the bearings then the exle will slide right out, correct? Getting it out of the wheel assembly is what I'm not 100% clear on yet.
  4. What is the knuckle? And what is the CV race?
  5. Been a while since I've seen one, this time it's me wanting to do it. 78 Brat - remove the front axles.... what else? do I need to plug the transaxle shafts on the sides or are they OK exposed? And what do I need to do to get the axles out of the wheel assembly? Thanks!
  6. I loved how the Volvo barely took any damage. Didn't enjoy seeing the BMW 1600/2002 wrap around the tree though
  7. Hang in there dude, one day you can brag about how you took the high road and kept your Ru alive
  8. They also become more attractive when they're driving Subarus. I'm serious, just look.
  9. You're comin back to Oregon right? BTW, is that you in your avatar? Looks like pre-arrest Pee Wee Herman:grin:
  10. parting out http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=608300#post608300
  11. Does run but blown headgasket(s) Lost title, good body, rough interior. Hate to part out but that may be the best option considering all the good parts
  12. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Automatic transmission from a manufacturer with expierience in making a proper automatic transmission, ie not Subaru. Like a good old Ford C6 or something
  13. I like my 82 wagon, I really do. I would love to yank the engine out myself and learn how to fix headgaskets, lift her and make her my "dirty hippie offroad wagon" But I already have too much crap on my list of things and projects to get done. So what I'm saying is... if anyone wants to make me an attractive offer I'm willing to listen. I don't want to part out unless I can totally get it stripped though. Me cornfused:confused:
  14. Are there any automatic transmissions, FWD Subaru style or otherwise that would bolt up to an EA81 without fabrication? It would be cool to have an automatic Subaru that was reliable. OK I admit it, I just like the tall chrome shifter.
  15. My Brat sat for 5 YEARS before I got it. Ran like crap for a while with old gas and old plugs, blowing circular smoke rings and whatnot, but it cleared up just fine after an oil change, new plugs, air cleaner, fresh gas and a little RPM Flexing
  16. You're talking about a VW sand rail type thing, huh? By "Baja" I thought you meant late model AWD Subaru pseudo-pickup!
  17. I have heard of air cooled VW engines being modified and used as air pumps. 2 of the cylinders getting fuel and having combustion, the other 2 simply compressing and pumping out air into a hose.
  18. Hey, you're in Medford too! And I thought of something else. You could just swap the entire drivetrain over from an EA car. Then you'd have true old school Subaru 4WD, and that would be very, very cool. You'd just need a new driveshaft probably, different lengths.
  19. Uh.... you realize you would be losing like 150hp, right? But yes, the engine turns in the right direction. As for an adaptor, you'd probably have to take a lot of measurments and have something custom fabricated.
  20. Yeah, I have about 5 bike frames and all my tools back there, plus misc junk I don't want in my kitchen.
  21. Oh here's some pics after her date with the scrubby pad She wagon wheels with new 185 tires but I put them on the Brat
  22. For those of you who don't know, a few weeks ago I bought an 82 wagon that had been sitting in some guy's backyard for 8 months but "ran fine" for $50. Upon pouring water into the radiator it spilled out of every imaginable orifice, indicating a blown headgasket. The oil pan being filled with chocolate pudding (water/oil puree) further reinforced that idea. Plus, the engine wouldn't turn over more than twice. Fast f1orward to yesterday when I decide to de-emission the engine and lose lots of other crap it doesn't need in preperation to yank it out and fix stuff. I pulled off the valve cover breathers (one was capped off, duh!) and turned the engine over by hand. Chocolate pudding litterally poured out of them in big nasty gobs every rotation for many rotations. Then I realized the 3rd eye wasn't plugged in, so for kicks I plugged it in and borrowed the Brat's battery to see if it worked. It didn't.... but the engine did. Defying several laws of physics and amazing the crap out of me, the spark plugs which were terribly fouled caused explosions in the cylinders which had been full of pudding for eight months. She ran like crap blowing smoke with 2 blown headgaskets, no radiator and no alternator for about 30 seconds, but she did indeed run. I am in complete disbelief. SUBARU FTW!
