  1. The hatch yes, and bumper yes but so much more also. Both of the quarter panels are buckled and the floor in the hatch is bent downward. Everything attached to the body is pushed forward and down so much in fact that neither of the rear doors even budge when you try to open them and the quarter panels are completely bent to hell. I'll try to get some better shots, but for now I'm too upset to even look at it again. My buddy took this when we got back to my house, and it shows a bit more of the damage: Both of the quarter panels look like that, and the frame is actually bent in the really bad spot. On the bright side, neither of the rear lenses broke! Those suckers are hard to find!
  2. Where would you recommend I look? What will it cost to have it appraised, and should that be covered under his insurance? Do I need before photos? LUCKILY I had a "photo shoot" for her just a couple weeks ago that shows how pristine she really was.
  3. That would be excellent if I could find one similar to the one you are describing. I'm just concerned that I'll end up with a lemon or something and it will break down on me all the time. I know all of the quarks with this one, and would really hate to see it go. I really don't care what the price is, they are replacing it to it's exact specs whether they like it or not.
  4. Thanks! I'm super bummed out, and would be almost better if i was the one that crashed into a tree or something. At least I could only be angry with myself, but instead its like I was violated and I'm now getting raped by the insurance company. They also are insisting that they don't have to give me a rental for the time being, and I know for a FACT (thanks to my attorney) that they are required to do so. So I'm in serious melee with his lousy insurance. Oh man, I'm stressed out.
  5. On Wednesday we set out on our annual snow camping trip to Mt. Rainier. On the trip up, I got a bit stuck in a snow bank, nothing to be worried about until this: I was rear ended by a 2005 Jeep Wrangler at about 30 MPH. I was in the drivers seat and am suffering from severe neck pain, one of my friends was in front of the car pushing on the hood trying to help me back out- he ended up on the windshield after the car hit us and has cuts and bruises all over his legs and face. My other friend was next to the car and watched the entire thing unfold. We'll be fine, but the car, not so much. I'm very dissapointed as earlier this week the car looked like this: I've spent more time working on this car than anything else in the past year, and you're going to love what his insurance company has to say about it. I called my attorney and apparently they aren't required to repair anything. What they are required to do is find a comparable replacement according to the previaling market value of the vehicle in the area. So here's my problem: kbb value of the car is nothing, but it is the market value I'm concerned with. It must be comparable and I won't settle for anything less than what I had before the accident. Here is my cry: Does anyone know a rust FREE 1982 4wd blue wagon in EXCELLENT condition? This vehicle is not to purchase, but to prove the market value of the car. Money is no object here, all I need is for a couple people to put their '82 up on the "market" at the price at which they would be willing to part with it so that I can show the insuarance company that this really is a one-of-a-kind and to replace it would be more expensive than fixing it.
  6. DL offered a single range 4wd tranny whereas the GL had a dual range 4wd tranny. This is all void now since there has been so much swapping done, but out of the factory that was another difference.
  7. does anyone perhaps have one for an ea81 wagon that they'd be willing to sell me? I've been looking for one for quite a while.
  8. Does anyone in the North Pierce/South King county area know where I can rent a timing light? I've called Autozone, Schucks, and several other auto parts stores in the area, but none of them rent out timing lights. I'm way too poor to buy one, and I'd like to finish the tune up I started three weeks ago. Any ideas as to who might rent one? Does anyone have one that I could borrow for a couple days?
  9. I just got my Optima Yellow top tested, and Auto Zone said it was still in great shape (I've had it for like three years). I wanted a second opinion after the slobs at Schucks told me that it was going out, and I needed a new one. I'm not having problems with it, but I thought it would be interesting to check out, and the shops are only about 100 yards apart. What do you guys think? Who should I trust? Go for a third opinion? I'm kinda freaked out about being stranded, as it has happened like three times in as many months, and I don't really want it to happen anymore.
  10. I have in the past, but it seems like more hassle than it's worth, but I'll run it by you guys. In the past, I've opened up the bleeder valve on the caliper when changing my pads as to not push old fluid back into the master, but every time I do that, I need to bleed the system, and it gets kinda old. What do you guys think about not opening the valve and doing it that way?
  11. I guess we've all done that! I actually started a small fire the first time. Don't let the halogen light sit anywhere NEAR the fuel line, just in case. I had some splatter that caught on fire on the light, broke the bulb and threw the breaker. I ran for the fire extinguisher first, and the vice grips second. I actually had one of the lines plugged, but didn't think to do the other:banghead: .
  12. Coug- Here we go again! I'm with you on this one. Start with the coil, and then work your way towards the problem. If you determine the coil is fine, then you can start worrying about the disty, or if you aren't getting power to the coil, you can follow that back.
  13. So I'm sick and tired of my sloppy shifter, and I found the article on the repair manual, however I'm still super confused about it. Can anyone pass on some details about the process of repairing the slop, and perhaps some detail photos of a finished job with commentary about what I'm looking at (what I will see, what it should look like when I'm done, what was added, what was already there, all that fun stuff.) Thanks!
  14. I have EXACTLY the same thing going on under my hood. I tried to figure it out a few weeks ago, but got sorta burned out on it. Does this "test mode" apply to early 80's non-turbo wagons? EA-81 to be specific. If so, I want the green to go to black? huh? what?
  15. Is it the kind with the deep grooves and whatnot? I really like those ones, and I might be making a trip to costco. They seem to be quite expensive everywhere I've looked.
  16. I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive set of all season floormats for the winter time in my EA-81. Does anyone have any suggestions? I found a set for an Impreza, but I don't know if they will fit or not. Any thoughts?
  17. Ed, I know how you felt. My '84 camry went missing a few weeks ago. I filed a report, and so far, it hasn't turned up. It's a bummer for sure. xoomer- I'm on that for sure. I'm still on the lookout for 'em. Oh, and just in case anyone sees its a two-tone red and beige '84 camry plate #767-bvg. thanks!
  18. From what I've read in the books, there isn't a camber/caster adjustment on the early 80s models. I don't know about the EA82s though... I got the same thing you did at the alignment shop, and I left with a bad taste in my mouth because they did the toe-in adjustment, but not the camber/caster adjustment and charged me the whole $55.
  19. WOO HOOOOOOO It's been doing this for months and months now, and now it's GONEEEEEEE. hooray. No more shaking, and no more clicking. As it turns out, the DOJ boot was completely ripped into two pieces, and the CV boot wasn't much better. Ed: you said that the passenger side is usually less worn, why is this? I've gone through two of them in the same number of years, and haven't had any problems on the driver side. One more thing: when I was in there, I took a look at my brake pads, and the same one that wore out just recently, is almost gone again. It's only been on for about two months, and all of the other ones are just fine. What do I need to do to alleviate this problem? Thanks for all the help guys.
  20. I just finished replacing the axle, and I'm about to go on a test drive. We'll see how this goes... It was my first time doing the job, and from start (beginning with pulling the axle off of the parts car) to finish (tightening the lug nuts on my car) it took about 8 hours. Ouch! Well, that actually includes about 1.5 hours when I left to go get a Christmas tree with my dad, and about 20 mins for dinner this evening (the girlfriend made mexican woohoo.) I started at 12:30, and just finished about 10 minutes ago. Cross your fingers...
  21. I have a parts car sitting outside my house, and I'd like to use that, if possible. The axle appears to be sorta rusty, but the boots look good, and there is no grease anywhere outside of the boot. I don't know the condition, but is it safe to assume that since the boot is still good, that I'm good to go?
  22. What should I look for in an axle from the PAP? Luckily I have a parts car sitting around, but I don't know if they are good or not. Also, are the right and left sides unique, or can they get switched around? Thanks!
  23. is all of this information relevant to an ea81? Is it exactly the same? Close to the same? Thanks!
  24. Brand new tires last week, and it has been happening every few weeks for about 9 months now. It's about time to get it fixed. Thanks though!
