  1. So, is Fred still part of the picture???
  2. WOW, glad I never had a 928, I never replaced any parts out of wear on either my 911 or 914. I did a lot of work on them as upgrade type work, but very little maintenance type work.
  3. This is one reason why I do my own repairs, but then I realize that not everyone can do that. This may seem high, but try pricing other makes. Be thankful you don't have a Porsche or a BMW. Back in the early 80's I had a BWM and had to replace the water pump. At that time a Chevy water pump cost about $20 at Shuck's, the water pump on the BMW is about the size of your fist and cost almost $200, I'm just glad that I didn't have to have the dealer install it. But then again, that was the only part that had failed in 130K. Subarus are noted for their longevity, if they are properly maintained, the one weak point is the timing belts, too bad that they need to be replaced every 60K (I do it every 50K). On the earlier cars, the weak point is the radiator, those things got glogged and you didn't know it until the thing overheated. If you can't do the work yourself, try to find a reasonable mechanic that does good work (a rare commodity these days), if not, you have to bite the bullet. It is better that you keep the car in great running shape, it will save you grief later.
  4. So what model and year is this part on. I have a complete hydrualic clutch setup from a 92 Turbo Legacy and there isn't anything that that there. I have a hydrualic clutch on the 96 WRX and there is nothing that that there either.
  5. Yes, as long as they are from a 1995 to 1999 Legacy, they will bolt right up. (Yes I know there were no GTs or Outbacks in 95, that is the model range.)
  6. Not having any kids, I wouldn't know what you are talking about. Trucks are work vehicles, not commuter vehicles, the only good reason for a back seat in a truck is if you are hauling a crew of workers to a job site.
  7. I think everyone was hoping for a next generation of the old school BRAT, when they saw the Baja, they were shocked. A 4 door truck without was useful bed, when what they wanted was a 2dr with an real truck bed. I don't know who did the marketing study for the Baja, but they missed the boat big time. I see something similar happening to US pickups, they are going to 4 doors and have smaller beds, the few models that you can still get as 2 doors are only available as a base model. I'm surprized that the 'Good Old Boys' of the south aren't yelling their heads off about this. It's a little hard to reach for the rifle when it is in the window rack and full 4 feet or more away.
  8. Now here's an idea, get Tex to add a page to the WCSS8 web site for 'T'-shirt ordering, give him the PayPal info, and you'll be in business. That way anyone who visits that site, whether from this board or others will be able to order the shirts.
  9. Richie, charge a flat $10.00 for shipping and handling, that should be enough to get a single shirt anywhere in the USA. Maybe add $2.00 for each additional shirt. International shipment would be more.
  10. I recently added these guys to my parts farvorites, if I ever get around to building a rally car, this is where I'll get my roll cage, I saw the one that they did for GRM, it looks great.
  11. Dr. RX replied to rguyver's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I think there are a couple of these running around Australia somewhere.
  12. I average 22mpg with my 96 JDM WRX conversion, and I'm lead footed.
  13. Yes, Richie is in charge of the shirts, he is also very busy, if you have his phone number give him a call.
  14. Putting any EJ series engine into a Loyal would be about the same amount of work. So it really comes down to cost. If you go with the new 2.5 USDM STi engine, forget about the EA series D/R tranny unless you have a trailer load of them and like replacing trannies. I would think that a N/A EJ22 would be the limit of power for an EA series D/R tanny. I would sticjk with the tranny that come with the STi engine. You'll need to shorten the driveline 55mm.
  15. The one special tool that I use, that is never mentioned in any repair manual for a Subaru that I have ever seen, is a large spring clip (the kind that you use to hold papers together, like these http://www08.quillcorp.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp?PageType=1&sku=008267&EFFORT_CODE=901&FIND_NUMBER=721000 ). I clip the belt to the pulley over the mark so that the belt will not slip off whiles I'm doing something else. It also assures that the belt doesn't skip a timing mark when the tensioner is released. For commercial vehicles, AllData may be the best, but I have found them lacking when it come to personal vehicles.
  16. Not sure about Subarus, but my Porsche's side light would stay on if the turn signal level was in either the right or left position (the side marker for the corresponding direction would be on only) even with the car turned off and key out of the ignition.
  17. OMG, Subaru is becoming FORD. One of the things that I love about Subarus is the interchangeability of parts from one model to another. But this is ridiculous, I would have thought the only he might need was the backing plate since the STi disc might be bigger diameter and therefore need to move the cailper further out. That is the way it is on the GC8 cars.
  18. I just check the two registration that I had in e-mail, your's is one of them, you now need to got to step two and send a PayPal or request my snail mail address for sending a money order.
  19. Well, I don't know what the problem is at your end, but I just did a test on the registration page and it worked for me.
  20. WOW, they have one for the extremely rare, never seen Legacy Coupe (look at the second class II hitch). I've been thinking about putting a hitch on the 95 Legacy Wagon, this is good info.
  21. 9 people have pre-registered so far, 7 have pre-paid using PayPal, one is sending a money order, and I'm waiting to hear from one on how they plan to pre-pay.
  22. Unless you can be sure that they are the same ratio, yes.
  23. I'm not sure, but I heard that some of the hole in the USDM WRX trannies are threaded, to bolt to an older Impreza, those holes need to be drilled out.
  24. The two turbos on the Legacy are not for performance (as in more horse power) they are to spread the power over a larger RPM range. One turbo is a low RPM turbo the other is a high RPM turbo, on the older twin turbos there was a flat spot in between, but that was fixed on later models. A larger turbo will increase turbo lag between shifts. The whole thing is to over come the interia of the weight of the turbine and compressor wheels. Some of the newer ceramic and ball bear turbos are larger, yet less weight and spin more freely, but they are also way more expensive.
  25. First off, it is an EJ20TT, not a 22. Jamal is correct, they came in certain model Legacys (Libertys in Australia). Do you have the engine now??? Why do you want a twin turbo? Do you know why Subaru used two turbos on the Legacy?
