  1. So, I want to know, is it an Impreza wagon or a Legacy wagon. Your post states Impreza, but your personal data states Legacy. This is too early of a car for air bags or i would know exactly what is wrong.
  2. Interesting, I'll have to check the owners manual on my 95 Legacy to see if it has a model number for the N/A EJ22.
  3. Some of the guys around here have installed EJ22's and EJ25's (the SOHC model) into theEJ18 powered cars and seem very happy with the power, you might try that route before turbocharging the EJ18. If you have a 93, you are in luck because starting in 93 that started only issuing updated for the following years. If you owned a 97, you'd need all the books betwwen 93 and 97 to have the complete manual. I believe there are only two books for the 93 model year. You might have beeter luck finding a CD copy of the manuals then finding the actual book.
  4. Your explaination makes logical sense, but I have never known Subaru to us logic when assigning designations to engines. For example, logically the early WRX engines should be EJ20DET (EJ20, DOHC, Electronic Fuel Injection, Turbocharged) but it is an EJ20G. Low compression 1.8 pistons would have to be custom made, but you could use the exhaust and turbo unit off of an EJ22T (ooppss Logic won out here), but you'd still have to use the 1.8 ECU.
  5. So, since we haven't heard back from the originator as to what he meant by his EJ18S, we can't make conclusions. You stated a possibility, I stated my interpretation of what that should be, you made a comment, then I asked if you were happy being that way. I have worked in 4 different countries not including the USA (and I don't mean Canada or Mexico), I have taught 'English as a Second Language' to over 40 different nationalities, I speak two other languages besides my own. I probably finished High School before you were born, back in a time when the ability to read and write were taken very seriously. Yes I get very frustrated with the English composition that I see here, but if I had a dollar for every time I didn't post a comment, I'd be a rich person. We, as Americans need to be more respectful of our language, I'm sure that the Japanese or Chinese don't make such mistakes. And you want to talk cultures, take you nick name "nipper", I know of at least two cultures that would be offended by that name. So, if 'drink' is still out there, I would be interested in knowing what you meant by EJ18S and EJ22S. I'm open to new information and maybe you have found something that we all need to know.
  6. So you are just going to accept that? If you could improve, wouldn't you want to?
  7. Then is would be a lower case letter 's', not a capital letter 'S'.
  8. What is an EJ22S and an EJ18S, I know what an EJ22 and an EJ18 is, but the 'S' is throwing me.
  9. I think one of the points that I like to drive home with people who are thinking of doing any type of EA to EJ conversion (or JDM to USDM) is that the mechanical is the easiest part, probably 20% of the job, it is the electrical that is the toughest part
  10. Good question, I really doubt that anyone really knows because most people who want to improve HP are willing to do just about anything. But here are a few things that you can do. 1) Get a cold air system, you'll probably have to custom make this as I doubt any aftermarket vendors will have one for this setup. 2) Increase the boost, get a boost guage and an adjustable boost valve. 3) Get a set of headers and a free flowing exhaust system that includes a better down pipe. All of these will increase HP, but to what extend, I'm not sure.
  11. No cut off date yet, but I was thinking sometime around the 10th of August.
  12. Dont think you can get any chips for the ECU, nor can you get that one flashed. The main differences are the cams, the cam followers and the amount of boost, all other parts are the same. The engine is known as an EJ20G. Yes the downpipe will fit, but from there back is questionable. There is another difference, but this changes regardless of being a GT/WRX or a Legacy/Liberty engine, and that is having a closed or open deck. If your engine has cross hatch marks cast into the block, it is a closed deck. The water and oil passages are different between that head and engine on closed or open deck engines.
  13. Sunday the 25th of June will be the two month mark until the show in August. So far I have 17 people signed up, of those 15 have paid, 2 are suppose to be sending money via snail mail (but I haven't seen it yet). Now is the time to make plans, don't wait until the last second (you might not get the time off you want or need).
  14. Before people reply, maybe they should check out which country the person asking the question is from. The Impreza GT wasn't introduced until 93, the engine is similar, but depending upon the country that car is exported to, it might have the same or more horsepower. For those who may not know, the Impreza GT is what the WRX was called in parts of Europe.
  15. Maybe they do it on Saturday so that people will have another day in the weekend if they need to get something else done, like get their car towed home, or maybe they do it to keep people from racing on the gravel roads around there.
  16. Not really sure why that would help, the slapping is cause beause the skirts on the piston are not long enough. This causes the piston to wabble slightly in the cylinder, that causes the slapping noise you hear.
  17. I'll be in Oregon, but about as far away from Portland as I am right now. I'll be in Sisters, OR.
  18. Zap, ask Ken about the second section of the afternoon, is was so dry that you could run on any type of tire, there was a guy who turned in a 1:15 time on street tires, and won the Prepared AWD class, he was driving a 2.5 RS.
  19. The injector is right over the center of the plenum, just after the trottle body, how would that enrich boost? On my EJ20G, there are times when it stumbles at an idle, I believe that this injector would solve that problem. My MY96 doesn't have the 5th injector.
  20. The only loser was you for not showing up. I think that I did pretty good for a first time RallyX, I got very good comments from my instructor. Like my instructor said, if he had to run a RallyX, he'd run it in a RS 2.5, if he were running a preformance rally, he'd choose my car. My car is not really set up for RallyX and that make a big difference. You should really take the school Zap, even you could learn something from it.
  21. I believe it has something to do with an idle enrichment.
  22. I love it, a FWD car with a trailer hitch.
  23. From what I understand, Toyota is giving Subaru hybred technology in return for AWD technology.
