  1. I just noticed that lots of people have been locked out due to failed logins. All accounts have been unlocked, but if you cant remember your login info, please email me so we can get you a new password to login. Rob turbone@gmail.com
  2. The trans in the turbo will prob have a 25 spline axle, so plan accordingly. Also, its going to be a 3.7 gear ratio, so be sure to swap the rear end also
  3. Turns out the IAC needed adjusting. Part of my problem (in my shop) is having too many parts laying around. This GL10 was a rebuild from the ground up and I had parts from my RX laying around also. Which means multiple IAC's to choose from (and not keeping stuff separated). So I grabbed the best looking one and cleaned it, then installed it on the GL. Only messed with it once, after getting the engine running, but knew too much fiddling is a bad idea. I got the car back to my shop last week and after going thru everything (again), I tried a little adjustment on the IAC. It worked like a charm, no more surging and fuel dump is almost gone. No more smoke after startup. It went home last night and the owner took it to work. He txt'd me and said it stumbles, shakes and farts at first, then runs better when its warmed up. I have the 2 10in fans on a switch now, the engine struggles to get to Op Temp but manages after several miles. Big reason is the radiator is a BIG 2 row aluminum rad (In prep for NA/T), so we may find a smaller rad to run temporarily. Now he needs to find another 5spd D/R trans as the current one is almost gone
  4. Another bit of info. We used custom made headgaskets from Cometic. Cant remember the exact thickness, but they were made thicker for future NA/T application.
  5. Just replaced the temp sensor, no change. Everything is from a 92 Legacy with original parts, with a stock 5spd D/R trans I might take another look at the return line
  6. I did a EJ22 (complete engine rebuild) swap on a friends 87 GL10 and the things been giving us grief. Its running real rich and dumping fuel and fouling the plugs. I've checked fuel pressure, its good. Comp on all cylinders is over 200 (rings have extra gap for NA/T in the near future. Its also hard to start and runs rough for several seconds, then smooths out. Has a little bit of a surge too. Non EGR and have replaced the fuel reg. Looking for a little guidance on where to look next, should I start going thru the wiring harness next?
  7. Contact these folks and ask if the have .50 rings. Also, you can look thru all the other vendors on ebay to see if someone sells the set. I tend to steer away from DNJ parts, As they are cheap chineseum stuff, but I've had good luck with Hastings and NPR https://www.ebay.com/itm/286535946018?fits=Year%3A1984|Engine+-+Liter_Display%3A1.8L|Trim%3ABase+Hardtop+2-Door|Model%3AGL|Make%3ASubaru|Submodel%3ABase|Engine%3A1.8L+1781CC+H4+GAS+OHV+Naturally+Aspirated&_skw=Engine+Piston+Ring+Set&itmmeta=01JTGGCDK5QCYY56G3JP27C2G5&hash=item42b6df8f22:g:GRMAAOSwGV1n8-L7&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAABIFkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dVY6P5gatqhuRHuVG4ciQApiO91CmKZ1GKhjuDRTL1uR8hyiSb5sbsItgmuoKoBQlCzg23eI%2BhpPrJpzKKCP4lOjPOopLM3kluSYyR%2Fc76VCR13ECk%2B7T6Iy3QfGbavPNaOIG1rLJ6m3eAYuK%2FEWNMUZLPY%2Bo%2Bud6v3Uzwmo58K%2Fg964pFpDXHq7E1XZOljK2MhX8HT5DvSWlpcB9UOcbDjoG0ai3Pr8rb1KaI%2B%2FbGScHm1YJZ326VlfMnXDQFMyh77DAvU1C%2BkXpEYnGJVNmYjI3XcOORaUDrio5A%2BiGczM9gGwQUSRqfW3TEXNW3jqgRq3cfxaRbszs1W4rijv825AENgRfUdu6o5Pr7mVfSUw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR-DZsZDUZQ
  8. Sorry for the late approval for this thread. If its Subaru related, it "usually" doesnt need to be in OT
  9. I'll need to check on clearances These arent cheap tires, they are Yokohama's (which I've got on my RX with zero issues) and her travels are mostly freeway She was able to get just one tire on Sat and Les Schwab's installed it. I'm going to be on the look out for some16in or 17in wheels for it I think if I go down in wheels size, finding a tire with more sidewall will be easier to fit
  10. Just checked Discount Tire for sizes etc and the standard Impreza 2.0 uses 16in or 17in wheels with a 205 sidewall. I think this might be a better idea for her. Now I need to find some wheels she'll like
  11. Another update, its been a while. Its running pretty good. Well it was until I messed with the charge pipe clamps. Have a boost leak now and I've already checked the clamps I messed with. But its not smoking like it was, so the rings have sealed. Also adjusted the valves again. From the way it was running before the boost leak, this engine is going to rock! Cant wait to finish breaking it in, then I can do the fuel mods and slap the VF39 turbo on
  12. My wifes Impreza Sport has had 2 Yokohama tires with sidewall punctures. I presume its due to the 225 sidewalls. What I'm wondering and looking for, has anyone installed a tire on this model that has a taller sidewall? She also doenst like the ride or the extra road noise from the tires. With the Sport suspension, I'm not positive a taller tire wouldnt rub somewhere
  13. RapidRabbit898 started following Turbone
  14. More work done in the engine bay. Making sheet metal shrouds on the inner fenders to hide wiring and aux parts. The blue stuff is a plastic film that peels off, its brown underneath. The panels will be painted black
  15. Yes, they are
  16. 2 things to check - the coilpack and the catalytic converter
