Turbo brat tranny/engine swap?
dave valiant replied to csiprun's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had one of those and I beat it mercilessly on more than one occasion and never had the engine overheat. The transmission is a different story altogether.MWM2 killed my transmission. -
Getting better gas mileage

Will eliminating the PCV sytem help fuel economy. I live in a state that does not have emissions testing so it would not be a problem. -

A pipe wrench will get that thing off. Take the skid plate off put the pipe wrench on the plug. I have been doing oil changes for a living for quite a while and the pipe wrench always works. Heating the drain plug with a propane torch will also do wonders for you. Dont drill. the oil will be very bad for your drill. Dont chisel. You miss and you just might put a hole in your pan. Bob Dole knows it you know it and the American people know it. A pipe wrench is your friend. -

Well you will always be able to find it in any parking lot. Kinda jumps out at you. -
The joints in the T Brat are pretty darn new. They got replaced right after I got back from MWM2. I would think that they would still be good.

Sorta OT. I bought an 88 wagon from Chef_Tim a couple of years ago. When I went to get the car I had gotten off work at 1:00 am drove across SD to TIms, hung out with him and Vicky then headed back home. I was so tired that I kept misreading the door lock light as good luck. I thought it was nice that the car was wishing me well on the trip home.

Michelin XCX/APT is the greatest tire ever. I want to get a set of 15" pugs so I can get a set. They are a light truck SUV tire and they last forever. I have seen Jeep Cherokees with 80,000+ miles on those tires and still have 6/32 on them. They would last forever on my GL. They are expensive, but very, very worth it.

I just installed 4 new Sony 6" speakers in my 87 wagon. The fronts went in pretty straight forward but the rears dont have the spacer like the and I can't get the fronts do and I cant get the door panels back on all the way. Is there a spacer that you can buy to fix this problem. I think a one inch would be enough.

HELP - car won't move - CV?
dave valiant replied to Tman_567's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had the splines strip out on a hub of my old 84 wagon and it did exactly what yours is doing. It was a 4wd so I just put it in 4 hi and drove it home. -
Flushing the Heater Core
dave valiant replied to I)arkZrobe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did you take the spare tire out? you won't see them with the spare in there. -
I Pulled the rad cap off and started the car when it was cold and added coolant as it was needed. I then used the car to deliver pizza (I couldn't think of a better torture test) the heater was blast furnace hot all night and the temp gauge never waivered. I am hoping that this simple fix worked, as the other fix is not nearly as simple.
-
I have done this a couple of times. I actually did it today even though the problem was not rearing its ugly little head. It has only over heated on me twice. I shut it off and checked the coolant level in the over flow. I never opened the rad when it was showing hot on the gauge. but I would top off the coolant in the over flow and it would get sucked in.

That is really what I figured. I am going to pull the engine and do the hg's myself. I am going to use the new fixit gasket from Subaru. Also planning on t belt, water pump, and thermostat. Anything missing? Do the ej25s have a cam box like the ea82? I am serioulsy unfamiliar with the entire ej series.thanks.

I have a 98 outback wagon that on occasion the temp gauge will rise to hot and lose heat from the heater. I have checked for bubbles and oil in the over flow. I have checked for coolant in the oil. None of these are present. I am all but convinced that I have a bad head gasket regardless. any suggestions. And yes I did a search.
