  1. I finally crawled in and looked for the relays tonight. I did not see them on the steering column. When you say up higher on the dash do you mean in the same general area as the steering column? I was working in low light conditions and could not get a good look up that far. I am just wondering if I am loking in the right place. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  2. With shipping, I think mine was around $1100.00. That was for an spfi EA82
  3. I am giving a big thumbs up for CCRinc as well. They are the best. Plus we all need to give Shawn the work.
  4. I just wonder how much of a premium the new diesel will add to the sticker price. Subaru used to make efficient, fun, affordable cars. they seem to have gone away from that mindset.
  5. I used an ea82 power steering pump on my turbo Brat. it bolted to the bracket just fine. the fittings were different though.
  6. Thanks for the input. I am going to try the tapping and then the lighter and then the relays. I will post when I get this figured out and let you know if I electricuted myself.
  7. I used a deck screw once. Had no problems at all with it.
  8. There is a minimum maintenece road just outside of Sioux City Iowa that you should try. Just make sure that it has been raining for a week straight before you attempt to get it stuck there.
  9. I have an 87 Wagon. The heater blower will work on all four settings. The intersting thing is that if the heater runs for 15 minutes and the car is shut off, the blower motor will not come on on any setting. If the car sits for 15 minutes or the heater is shut off for 15 minutes or so, it will work again. I don't think that it is the resistor pack since all four setting will work. I have replaced the switch because the old one was very worn out(I would have to put pressure on the switch for it to work.) Could it be the blower motor? I do have another resistor pack I could put in. I am really at a loss on this. It doesn't help at all that I am not very bright when it comes to electrical.
  10. I paid that amount about 6 years ago for a new cat and y pipe installed. That sounds like a good deal to me.
  11. It was just a blast. I was taking dips in the road doing 45 mph with no bottoming out. The OBW would bottom out at 30. I was revving high and shifting hard, just to hear the squeal of the tires and see the little black line on the road. The OBW will outhandle and out accelerate my GL. There is just something about an old Sube. Considering my hatred of the EA82, I can't believe I enjoyed driving the 87 so much.
  12. There is a rally course opening up in the Black Hills this spring. A guy with 500 acres is getting it all setup.
  13. I am unable to find it now, but a few years ago someone took a Chevrolet 454 and put Subaru twin cam heads on it. He welded two sets of heads together for each cylinder bank. This monster made 700+ horsepower if I remember right. I do believe it was in Hot Rod Magazine.
  14. About three weeks ago I bought a 98 Out Back Wagon. I absolutely love the new Sube. I parked my 87 GL the day I got the OBW. I looked at her today and noticed that the left rear tire was low. I drove her down to the local gas staion to air up the tire and realised how much I miss that thing. The turning radius seems so much tighter and the ground clearance is so much better. I am now asking why did I get this other wagon. I mean the extra power in the OBW is very very nice, but she just seems to lack a certain charm. Am I out of my mind on this? Anyone else out there ever experience anyhting like this? I have buyers remorse for a car I really like.
  15. I have a 98 outback that I want to change the thermstat on. It looks like it is located under the intake manifold. Is that where it is and does the intake have to come off to get to it. Thanks
  16. Thanks Tim. That would definetly make getting them changed a whole lot easier. I will give you a call tonight.
  17. I just got a 98 OBW and want to do a few things to have her tip top. I am going to do the timing belt and water pump. The water pump sin't leaking but i just figured while I am in there to do it. I am also going to replace the spark plugs and wires. There isn't a whole lot of room to work with in there so I was wondering what the best way to go about getting them in and out would be. To me it looks like I will need a short extension on the socket, then after that is in attach the ratchet to the extension. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  18. 87 GL Wagon D/R 5 speed. it gets 28 in town. I am not sure what it gets on the highway.
  19. I had to buy a new water heater yesterday so all of my road trip funds are gone. Funny how something always seems to come up.
