  1. Hello! I have a 2003 Outback R Premium Pack 3GEN Auto AWD MY04, I have taken it to both an independent mechanic and the Subaru dealership in the town across from me. Both have come to the conclusion that the abs module/pump (part number 27596AG010) is stuffed. Subaru so far have been the only ones to have the solution but it comes with a hefty $6000 price tag and it's honestly worth more than the car itself at this point. I have had absolutely no luck in trying to track down an exact match for the module/pump combo, my mission today is to try and track down Bosch and see what they can do for it but my question for you guys, is there any difference between this 27596AG010 and this pump/module 27536AG010? Which I can find lot's of on the internet for about $150. They look similar in regards to where the holes and stuff are but I honestly have no idea what I am looking at. I have attached pictures of the one I have found vs the one currently in the car. Any help here is always appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Working on a 2008 Legacy, I just finished replacing both CV axles with good ones from O'Reillys. I'm in a out of the way rural small town and they didn't have two rebuilt ones (I've heard the rebuilt ones are better) so I ended up getting one rebuilt one and one new one. Now I'm having problems with the ABS pulsing when breaking and sometimes getting an error 55 on the instrument cluster display. I inspected the sensors and they appear okay. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue before?
  3. When it’s absolutely dumping rain, my car’s abs light will flash intermittently, usually relating to a hard stop, corner, or hitting some washboard roads. Now, after a big storm 2 days ago, the problem persists. If I crank the wheel, hit the brakes pretty hard or hit some good old Michigan potholes, the abs light will come on for maybe half a second, causing the radio to cut out. I don’t really know where to start. I’ve played with all the connectors and it won’t pop on at all. Anyone have any ideas of where I should start this goose chase? Thanks- CL
  4. My daughter bought a 1995 Impreza (EJ18) with the ABS light on. Brakes work great. Now that winter is here I thought maybe we should see if we can fix the ABS. I know nothing about the ABS system, only that each wheel has a sensor. The car has 178,000 miles on it. How do you determine where the problem is?
  5. i bought a 02 outback and after a day the brights stay on all the time. I checked all the fuses and relays, and even took apart the turn signal to see if I could tell if it was something mechanical in there. I believe this is what made the abs light come on, or they are related. the seller isn't responding so I am guess he know there was something doggy about the car. I didn't want to just start swapping out parts. Is there a particular wire set I should look at or give up and take to a mechanic? thanks for your help in advance.
  6. I acquired a non running 1997 Outback wagon that I couldn't see going to the local landfill. I diagnosed a few problems, main one being bad fuel pump, and to make a long story short, I have it running, and have made other needed repairs like brakes all around etc. However, the ABS and SRS warning lights are on. I have checked all related fuses, and the weird part is, the 6 pin diagnostic plug is not giving me any codes at all. I have tried grounding pin 1 for SRS with one of the two factory black grounds in the wiring harness, and same with pin 6 for ABS..also tried my own grounds. No flashing on either light for codes, they just stay on steady. I know I have the right back 6 pin connector, I've done it in other Outbacks. What am I missing? Many thanx, great board here! Steve
  7. Hi This is my first post so I hope I am doing it correctly. I have a 2000 legacy gx automatic estate. My problem is that the ABS does not operate at all. On startup the Abs does not illuminate but the VDC off lamp does. I have checked fuses #8 and #15 and they are fine. The two relays near the abs unit click when the ignition is turned on. My suspicion is that someone has removed the ABS bulb which I think I need to get the codes to diagnose the problem!! Is there any other way of getting the codes or do I need to strip out the dashboard to check the abs bulb? Many thanks for any suggestions.
  8. I have a 99 Subaru outback legacy wagon. It was snowing pretty good yesterday and I slid into a curb. Now the ABS light comes on after I drive it a half a block or so. Checked the speed sensors, and ring? gear, there fine. Is there a pin I can ground to get the ABS code? O'Rielly's couldn't get a code w/ there ABS scanner. If there is a pin, can you provide a pic or drawing of the connector and what pin number I need to ground? Any help is appreciated!!!
  9. I’m in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada and if you know the Parries, you know we get some cold weather. It has been -20 Celsius or less for a week now and I’m having some real issues with the warning lights on my dash. I have 2014 Forester 2.0XT with Eyesight and a factory installed car starter. After a night of cold weather I will, of course, try to warm up my car using the Subaru installed starter.. but it won’t work. It doesn't want to start the vehicle because the computer is displaying the following warning lights: Check Engine, Hill Assist, AT Oil Temp, ABS, Vehicle Dynamics System, Pre-collision braking system off and Lane departure off. I took the car into the dealership last year and presented a photo of the dash (because these things never seem to present themselves when you have a technician standing next to you), they agreed that it was strange and replaced the wiring harness. This seemed to do the trick; however, at this point the overnight temperature had begun to improve as spring was on its way. Now we’re into January again and I’m faced with same issues. I don’t want to be a super big baby about it, but I paid the extra money to have a car starter installed (because I don’t have a garage) and it just won’t work. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue as me? Or, do I have to just suck it up and face the fact the car starter only works in the summer, and that the warning lights are just another reminder that the winters on the parries are brutal.
  10. 99 legacy wagon 2.2 L (210,000 mi) recently can feel ABS come on just before the car comes to a complete stop and skidding is definitely not occuring. Any thoughts?
  11. I have a 2011 Subaru Impreza with only about 31,000 miles on it thus far. Just curious if anyone else has experienced the following problem. All of a sudden out of the blue when I am driving, the following 3 lights appear on the dash: ABS Hill assist is off Skid control is off If I turn off the engine and turn the car back on, the 3 lights disappear. This has happened a total of 3 times. 2 of them were in extremely cold below zero weather (I live in Wisconsin) and the 3rd in a temp of about 35 degrees outside driving in a rain/snow mix. My old 2002 Subaru Impreza never gave me problems, but I sold that one to my son 3 years ago---I kinda want that one back. I liked the old one better than my new one. Any thoughts on why the lights appear?
  12. My Anti-lock braking system is non-functional since many months (broke the front ABS rings, don't ask,,,) and I removed the big fuse in the engine bay to prevent the ABS logic from checking it's function (which results in low brake power a few seconds after starting the engine, which could be very annoying and dangerous). So everything is fine so far, but "of course" the ABS light in the dash is on (my mother's Hyundai Starex shut offs the light also when removing the fuse). That wouldn't bother me, but it's bothering the German agencies for technical inspections (general inspection every 2 years on old cars) since last year and therefore won't approve "inspection passed" if the ABS light is on although they don't test the ABS itself for function. And you don't need to have an ABS at all... Anyway, silly German laws. I urgently need to go to the general inspection and therefore I need to get that ABS light off. Has anyone an idea how to get that light off? Besides taking out the dah and removing the bulb... Thanks!
  13. Hi I have a problem with my ABS system which my mechanic says is probably in the Brain because there is no response when checking for an error code. I have an 1097 Suba Ourback legacy 2.5 auto. I got a used one to replace it but I cannot find it to replace it anywhere. I looked for it here with the search with no sucess and I tried Google in general. I kave looked under the dash on the drivers side, under the rear seat, under the passender seat and under the hood ahead of the passenger side wheel.I did pull up the carpet beneath the reae seat but no other carpet. There are many buts and pieces of the system but nothing that looks like what I have as a replacement. Can anyone tell me where to look please? Tere is a picture of the replacement part I got just for reference. It has a very large socket for a wire harness plug so I have been looking for anything else with that kind of huge wireing connector too. No lucj so far.! I tow a boat and I really need that ABS. Thanks Rob
  14. I am wanting to completely remove my ABS system from my 99 Outback Wagon, I am wondering what year vehicle I should pull the brake lines from to install on this one? or possibly the other option I ask about below. First off heres why I need to do it. 1. I really don't think I would like ABS, I grew up in icy Colorado and have become quite used to being able to feel the road thru the pedal and to be honest I am kinda scared that abs will not allow me to have as much control as I'm used to. 2. I am also very used to my hill holder (91 Legacy), and so I am hoping to be able to add that to a non abs system. 3. and most important is that in my 91 legacy I have a deep cycle battery sitting in the location of the ABS pump. So I have 2 batteries hooked up in my car now, one for start and run and the other for my power inverter so I need that space freed up. Here might be another option but I dont know. I was thinking I could just rebend the existing lines around the ABS pump and just splice them together and route them along the frame below the pump. I am putting a 2.2 in the car today so I'll have to space to do it and the battery now. So my next question would be is there a brake master cylinder I could use that has the hill holder option and if so what year and model? Thanks for any help.
  15. While pa-rusing around my dealer's online catalog, I decided to go into the 94 section looking to see if they listed thing there that my 91 didn't have listed.. And I found an ABS section. With subcategories of speed sensors, relays and G-sensors. What the what? I know the Legacy had an ABS option in 94, but when looking at the legacy parts in the same catalog, the part prices (no part numbers listed) were different implying different parts... Has ANYONE ever seen an ABS system on a Loyale before? And I went back into the 93 and below catalogs and the ABS line exists with the same parts... now, IDK where they would've put the sensors (Since the Impreza/Legacy spindles have provisions for them..) but...? Ideas?
