Featured Replies

ok this thought has been pondering me for a while now. exactly wat does seafoam clean out? i want to know cuz i was thinking of using some on my 86' GL-10 Turbo wagon. honestly i ask cuz i wan to be informed before i go out and buy the stuff and just dump it in.

thanx

Buddy

Its Like Marvel Mystery oil, or the car vesion of exlax and castor oil.

It cleans out carbon deposits, mineral deposits and other trapped nasties.

I personally wouldnt use it as a constant additive, but as a one time clean the gunk out kind of thing it is great.

would it help my GL-10 pass the smog inspection? thats the main reason i ask cuz i really need this wagon running again soon...

It may. Just one way to find out.

Also do a real tuneup, that will help.

When i purchased my 1990 loyale a year ago, it clattered and clicked and made all kinds of noise out from under the hood. The oil looked lilke it had been changed that day. So I drove it home (200 miles) and it got a little better. I did a tune up and that made it better. Did a search on this type of addative. I have used seafoam on other cars too. I bought two cans. One can in the empty tank just before I filled it up completely with reg unleaded. Half a can in the crank case oil. I left it in there for about 200 more miles and changed the oil. Second half of the can went into the vacume system at the brake booster. I tell you I didnt know a sub could run so quietly. I dont have emisions testing here. But I dont think that it would hurt anything. And it could make it better.

Hope this helps

nice. thanx guys. one thing i've heard tho is dat it makes ur car smoke like there's no tomorrow. how bad does it smoke and for how long?

I havent used FS but have used water to clean out carbon. It will stop smoking as soon as it stops burning the fluid. Drive out someplace where your neighbours wont be too pissed off at you :)

haha dat would be funny tho...

Haha, you laugh, but he's not kidding :) It'll smoke like a freight train, maybe worse, haha, till it's all burned out. *Not for use in residential areas

In the oil and gas no smoke. In the air intake lots !! of smoke. Suck half a can in at the brake booster. Use the throttle link to keep it runnning until it craps out. LOTS of smoke. I let it sit for about fifteen mins and then sucked up the other half. Let it sit then start the car and keep it running until it stops smokin. It will run like crap until its out. It took about 10 min to run it all out. For my car it took out all of the start up rattle and what sounded like the begining of TOD. When it had been in the high single digits for a week here I went out and started it. STILL no startup noise!

hmm sounds like after a big cloud of smoke the end result is a nice quiet suby....

BIG CLOUD it hid my car and I think the neighbors thought I had really messed up my car. Everyone outside decided the inside of the house smelled better.. (and I live on 10 acres). DId sound better though for a while. ...mine also left a BIG black streak on the ground that took some cleaning up....

were did it leave a black streak? near the exhaust pipe?

On the ground at the exhaust pipe. Been there done that.

So...you stuck the brake booster vac. line into the can and sucked up half the can? Wow. Is there that much carbon that builds up in the intake systems of these cars?
