Ok, so I have prowled around a bit but haven't seen anything concrete on a 'JDM ea82T'. Assuming this unicorn exists, what, if any, differences are there between it and it's US counterpart? And how would you tell them apart?

They did exist at one time but finding one from an importer will be a challenge.

I have a couple that have a tube threaded into the underside of the head near the exh pipe that have been cut and crimped.

Every crate engine you buy is JDM.

Dont think I've ever heard of a "mythological JDM EA82T" before.

I don't have any idea what the differences are since I don't have a point of reference. The motor was installed while my brother owed the car about ten years ago. The only thing I have seen is another 02 sensor that is right at the exhaust exit of the turbo but the wires are cut right there.

I bought one in dallas 2 yrs back,( its still doing pretty good), it had no egr port in the head, the boss was there but not drilled through. also had a 2 pin white plastic knock sensor, US is usually green 1 pin, except 85-86. mine was from an xt cause the harness exited in the center rear and had the flat belt grooved pulleys. also the bell housing part was different and would not fit, and the timing hole was in a slightly different location.

thats some of the differences.

any importer of JDM engines can get you one if they're available. have you called and asked about availability?

 

you would bolt up your intake manifold to the JDM block.

Mythological? (Almost) Every single EA82T in NZ is a Japanese Import, so I take it thats what you mean by JDM?

 

JDM is also my initials. Awesome.

When we say JDM here, it means that the engine was originally in a Japanese car and was pulled after ~60K. Then its shipped out to where ever.

are their any internal differences? cam, heads... yadda yadda?

The engines that were EDM had better intakes(heads too?) on them and gained a few more horses. I believe these were exclusively on the turbo XT's.

...I don't know why it would have a different bell housing, please ellaborate...

You can buy one here. I did and all you need to do is swap the intake because the harness comes off the passengers side not the drivers side.
