June 7, 201015 yr does anyone have any pics of any subaru station wagons that have been cut down into a ute/pickup. i have been thinking about getting hold of an older station wagon and cutting it down into a ute...probably an early model legacy(or an outback if i can find one uber cheap) but would depend on what i can find that would suit. i know it has been done before but i haven't been able to find any pictures of the results...so if anyone has any they would be much appreciated Cheers
June 7, 201015 yr I have thought of the same thing , nothing super fancy but just to make an nice offroader . It would have to be a 2 door wagon I would think , and all the later models in USA are 4 doors . Maybe later ones in NZ can be found in 2 door models ? I think it could be done without too much hassle if you planned it out and took your time cutting the bodywork . Like to see some pictures of the modifications and how its done myself CB
June 7, 201015 yr Author all the wagons here are 4 doors...i don't think they made 2 door wagons however after talking to the guy who i would get to certify it for the road it seem's that all i would have to do to regain the strength lost by cutting the roof off is to weld up the rear doors...making it a two door lol two birds dealt with one stone
June 8, 201015 yr Dont know if you wouldve seen it (dont know if your on ClubSUB) but a few months ago someone was thinking of doing the same thing. Came up with this photochop; Wouldnt be too hard to do. Hardest bit would be making a bulkhead for behind the front seats. Oooh might as well add in my favourite ute so far - the M3 Edited June 8, 201015 yr by keltik added pics
June 8, 201015 yr You could cut down an imprezza wagon and use coupe doors to keep it in proportion. I don't think it's that easy. Often times (in a lot of different car models) the difference between a coupe/wagon/sedan is not just the rear half, but the doors and other parts are different sizes. I'm not sure about Subaru, but I'm betting coupe and wagon doors (front doors that is) aren't interchangeable
June 8, 201015 yr Author hmmm that photochop is kinda what i have in mind...but i don't like how the back of the cab is done...i would want to make the rear profile of the cab more like a a brumby... like if they had carried on with the brumby based on the legacy or impreza wagon those tail lights on that photochop are just asking for trouble...might have to find some way to put guards over them if i make a ute
June 9, 201015 yr figured i'd do one maybe its what you are kinda lookin for? or maybe not, after reading your last post! haha. (ute based off of legacy pictured above it) Edited June 9, 201015 yr by xbeerd
June 9, 201015 yr Author that second photochop is more like what i have in mind...if that little triangle window was solid instead its almost exactly what i'm thinking of... a little bit more of a radius at the bottom where the angle meets the side of the deck an it would be bang on lol its getting bad...i'm looking at every wagon i see...an seeing potential ute yet to be cut to suit... June 10, 201015 yr I can see that going over well, Dear Subaru, I'd like you to make a car that you just recently took out of production because it's sales volume was poor. Sincerely, My newest Subaru is already 15 years old and I won't be buying a new one ever. PS, every model should only come with a 6 speed dual range and a turbo.
June 10, 201015 yr I can do it. I cut up my 06 WRX wagon but for a better departure angle. I don't want to make it into a ute but can do it. I would really like the suits at Subaru to see it one day. That would make it all worth while Here are some pics. Car was only a year and a half old when I did it Before During Done Well stocked
June 10, 201015 yr I saw one today in Ashland Oregon. If I see it again I will take a snapshot. It has a canvass top that went from behind the front seats to the tailgate.
June 11, 201015 yr Back on the old board about 10 yrs ago, a guy posted pics of his wagon. He moved the b pillar back to fit the doors off a 2 door on it. Looked cool, wonder if he ever finished it.
June 11, 201015 yr i like that wagon. I had thought of doing that to my red GL. Looks like a slightly modern Brat. -Justin
June 11, 201015 yr i do too, if i had skillz and a welder and metal and more skillz, i'd totally try something like that.
