Powder Coating Calipers

Featured Replies

Picked up a set of rear discs from Qman this weekend, and since I wasn't feeling too lazy I thought I would clean them up and give them a powder coating. 031.JPG

I did one in Wrinkle Red, and the hub and backing plate in Wrinkle black. Looks good, hides damage. I'll shoot the other one tomorrow. It wasn't too hard to take the caliper apart, it was my first time, pretty simple components compared to the giant 8 piston Brembo calipers we had in the shop to fit up to a WRX the other day

:headbang:

Those are WAY sick, Im taking mine apart to clean and paint too, I dont have a powder coater device so my set are just getting the ol rattle can...

Lookin' good, very nice.

Yeah I painted my rears a couple of years ago, used FORD RED engine enamel. Looks pretty good through my white Wagon Wheels, relatively easy to keep clean. Still would like to do the fronts too.

Just my 2 bucks

The powder coating looks great:banana: I just rebuilt mine too but it's a rattle can job.

Where did you guys get the new little rubber fittings that go on the calipers? I'm going to paint my calipers but I also wnna replace all the old and dirty rubber to make it all look sweet, did you guys just clean up your old ones or is there a part number I can get and order some?

I was able to get front replacement rubber kits from Oreily auto parts for $3 each. The rear was a lot harder, but rockauto had 4 left. I got two.

Which one was it from rockauto? I see a bunch of repair kits but some dont have pictures and I dont want to order the wrong one....which one did you order?

Thanks

The rear kit I ordered is the following.

No promises it will work on your stuff.

RAYBESTOS Part # WK1945

I just ordered a caliper rebuild kit from Subaru. It came with piston o-rings, piston dust boot seals, and the rubber bellows (1 kit is enough for 2 rear calipers). I think the seal kit was less than $30.00.

BTW your powder coating looks REALLY nice.

I ordered 2 sets and each 1 does the both sides, rock auto is a little weird at 1st but once you know how to use it, they have awesome prices!! I recommend them for sure...

I used the dupli color brake caliper rattle can paint on my set, it was like 9 dollars, I bought 2 packs of extra fine steel wool and scrubbed scrubbed scrubbed them suckers then sprayed them with carb cleaner, let dry and rattle canned them. The picture above is only 1 coat but I think I'm adding another tomorrow...The paint is awesome so far, I love how bright red it is....more pictures to come when complete...

Nice Paint Job!

Mine too... I Was Thinkin' in RustOleum, but maybe I'll Search for an Engine Enamel due to its High Temps.

Kind Regards.

I used duplicolor caliper paint, it says it has ceramic in it to help the heat, says resistant to up to 500 degrees. I like the paint alot and highly recommend if powder coating is not available... I believe the can of paint cost $9.00 and there is enough paint to do all four calipers and then some.......

I had to buy a new can to do mine, I used the rest of my old can on a friend's Chrysler conquest, which just happened to be DANG close in paint color, so close nobody could tell that 1/6th of his car was painted with duplicolor, once we buffed it all out lol.

Jon, calipers look awesome in crinkle red, very brembo ish lol, brad, those look good too, I like that shade of red.

yeah that crinkle stuff looks pretty rad...

Just got my boot repair kit for the caliper, I think I'm going to add another light coat then let dry, then REASSEMBLE!!!! I'm pretty stoked on rock auto too! THANKS for the recommendation. I oredered beck/arnley #071-7883 and it came with:

2 pistion seals

4 rubber grommets

4 bolt cover boots

2 brake valve covers

2 o rings

1 pack of grease

(so enough for both sides)

more pictures to come

Nomad, would you mind measuring the piston boot and seal ring with a caliper for me? I think my rear calipers are an odd size, as the part they sent me is the correct number but too large. Curious what size your boots are.
