schucks halfshafts

Featured Replies

So it was a nice day out, so I decide to change the passenger side halfshaft and everything when fine till I went to go for a test drive and I heard a grinding noise, turns out the new halfshaft seems to be slightly bigger than than the output shaft on the transmission and it was spinning on the shaft and broke the rollpin.

Has anyone had this happen to them?

A few months ago when I changed out the driver side halfshaft I had to return that one to schucks to get the correct one as the first one I got was two short.

What is this with schucks? maybe I need to go back to shopping only at Napa.

-end of rant-

Yeah.. those great guys.. I bought 2 axles from them with a lifetime warranty. I was moving from washington to texas.. they told me when I bought them that there was a store in Dallas.. Now that I need to return one of the axles for warranty work, the closest store is over 400 miles away in new mexico

Yeah I bought a axle from Kragen (same as Schucks I guess). The boot tore and the CV went bad within the year. Oh and I cant ever seem to get a good alternator from them.. Grrrrr

Andrew had the same problem with gettin an axle for his old '83 GL-10. They gave him the wrong one because they had the wrong part #. They had given him the one for an EA82. So they FINALLY got the part number right so now he knows what part number to ask them. But yeah man, I feel your pain.

I know that grind... 25 spline on a 23 tooth stub, cept I bought mine at the junkyard.

Side note re: schucks, 2 out of 3 clutch kits were no good. I'm gettin pretty good at this whole engine removal thing ;) Yeah yeah some say going from the tranny side is easier, I don't care, I can get the engine out in less than an hour, why change? :D

I agree with ShawnW.

I am 10 minutes from a PAP and buy everything used. They always have what I need, and at their prices you can get two parts, one for the replacement and one for a backup.

The huge availability of cheap local parts is part of what made me decide to offroad 83-84 soobs.

Yup.. in your area thats true ( I grew up in Tacoma)

Down here.. different story.. Us locals have only been able to find one turbo car in the yards... so we bought the whole thing and completely stripped it right there in the yard.
