September 4, 201114 yr I just bought this '92 Land Cruiser friday with only 150,000 on the clock. Full Front/Rear Offset Axles. 3-Link Front. 5-Link Rear.31x10.5.153rd Row Seating.4,760lbs Wet.I will update this thread with everything I do to this vehicle, if you've seen my other two Build threads, you'll understand how it works.-Tom Edited November 20, 201312 yr by TheLoyale
September 4, 201114 yr I really like those. However I want an imported one with the 3.0l turbo diesel, kind of hard to find, but they are plentiful in B.C. just 2 hours north of me... Bump for cool rig!
September 6, 201114 yr Author Removed the entire interior today and cleaned and treated everything, seats, carpet, center console. Smells like new! Waiting to see if the interiors natural smells return now that its clean. I have pictures of everything, will upload tonight. Heres a teaser...
September 7, 201114 yr Author Pictures finally! Since I spent all of Sunday changing all fluids (Oil, Trans, T-case, Diffs) I decided to start cleaning it up! Here are some pictures from today, Next up will be to do a chassis lube since everything has grease fittings (Even the Steering knuckles and yokes) then it will be getting Rancho RS5000 shocks and new BFG KM2s (33x10.5x15) I am also battling a tick/clatter (Sold Pushrods) no lifters at all, ran a whole pint of Seafoam and its made it a little less noisy, still need to figure this out, might have to pull the Valve cover and see whats up. On to the pictures: Driver Seats (1st, 2nd Row) Passenger Seats (1st, 2nd Row) 2nd Row Heater. 3rd Row Seating. Full Function Sun Roof. Edited September 7, 201114 yr by TheLoyale
September 7, 201114 yr Author Continuation: 31x10.5x15 BFG Long Trail. 31x10.5x15 BFG All-Terrain Radial Interior all cleaned and reinstalled: 2nd Row Flipped Forward. 3rd Row Folded Up
September 7, 201114 yr Author Thanks, its in nice shape, just can't say that about the top end of the engine (yet) Pushrod or somethings making a lot of racket (Has gotten better with Seafoam) but still not to the point I would like, it also has what I think sounds like pre-ignition (Almost constant while under load) Maybe some seafoam down the brake booster will clear that up. Got a Valve cover gasket coming, gonna pull the cover and see whats up. I also have an NGK wire set and new Ceramic brakes coming tomorrow. Update: Greased all the fittings I could find, still need to grease the steering knuckles.
September 8, 201114 yr Author This is a pretty cool video: I love how much suspension travel these Landcruisers have stock.
September 8, 201114 yr Aw shucks yer such a shutterbug! XD Lookin' good Tom! You and the car! Hope this one works out for ya!
September 8, 201114 yr This is a pretty cool video: I love how much suspension travel these Landcruisers have stock. I love the commentary at the end.
September 9, 201114 yr Awesome purchase, looks solid. These are a rarity where I live, I have always had a soft spot for them, more so the fj 60's but still that's a nice looking ride. Love the strait 6's as well. I can't wait to see what you do with it!
September 9, 201114 yr Author Replaced the wires today along with rear shoes (I hate the drum setup on this rig) Subaru has a way better set up, I am also displeased with a lot of other things with this truck so far. Been debating on selling it for more then what I paid just to get back what I put in and wash my hands of this whole ordeal, stick with Subarus (You won't go wrong) Motor ticks like crazy and I have some insane pinging, working on it, thats all I can say.
September 9, 201114 yr Author Honeymoon period is already over? Yeah, I think it was over that following sunday
September 10, 201114 yr Author Figured out why the Valve train is so damn noisy on this POS, I need to do a Valve adjustment (Theres no hydraulics) only Pushrods. This sounds like a ***************, you have to adjust all the valve while the engine is hot. So I need to get everything off the top end (Vac lines, intake boot, ect.) take the Valve cover off and start adjusting (Turn motor so another set of valves close and do the same thing till they are all done) all before the engine cools. I have never Adjusted valves before, thank god my Dad has lol....
September 11, 201114 yr Author Adjusting Valves tomorrow, I now have a feeler gauge (Which I haven't before) Hoping this will quiet the clatter... Heres hoping!
September 13, 201114 yr Author Finally adjusted the Rockers/pushrods Sunday, now its nice and quiet. Also has more power and runs better. I've been replacing all the vac lines I can on this thing as well. Jboymechanic and my Dad gave me a hand with the Lash adjustment, as its a two man job. Valve Cover Gasket (Victor Reins) Disty. All Adjusted and Valve cover back on. Split rear windows! Jon, the reason I bought a Toyota Vs. a Wrangler or Cherokee is I wanted a big Toyota with 3rd row seating, this was one of the most capable vehicles of the '90s and has been since they came out in the 50s. Solid front/rear axles, 3-link front, 5-link rear, front/rear LSDs, Center Diff Lock. Stick some 33x10.5 BFG KM2s on this rig and its set. Edited September 13, 201114 yr by TheLoyale
September 13, 201114 yr weird I've never heard of a car adjusting the valves while the engine was still warm.
September 13, 201114 yr Cool Wagon Tom, I Like it. Those Huge Wagons are Very Common here, in my Crazy Country; but... ...with the 3.0l turbo diesel, kind of hard to find ... ...Yes, Turbo Diesels... Gasoline ones are Really Hard to Find here; The New 'yotas Diesels got Hydro Lifters, so No Valve adjust anymore. (Toyota is the Nº1 Car Brand selling here... I wanna see the Face of those Toyota Mechanics when they receive the First BRZ Coupe rebaged as Toyota while Looking to a Horizontally-Opposed engine that says: Subaru. ) Also Automatics are Really Hard to Find, except on the Smaller Model Named "Land Criser Prado" and the Luxury "Lexus" Versions. Kind Regards.
September 13, 201114 yr Author Yeah I like it for the most part, just is going to take me time to get it the way I want it. You have the Manual versions down there!? They are all Autos in the U.S that I've seen. Cool Wagon Tom, I Like it. Those Huge Wagons are Very Common here, in my Crazy Country; but... ...Yes, Turbo Diesels... Gasoline ones are Really Hard to Find here; The New 'yotas Diesels got Hydro Lifters, so No Valve adjust anymore. (Toyota is the Nº1 Car Brand selling here... September 13, 201114 yr Didn't they discontinue the manual version in the US? I'd love one with a turbo diesel and a 5speed...
