check it out guys! drilled the rims and mounted them, used an old brake drum as a guide had to mount the ones on the rear inside out to clear everything, so i turned the front ones inside out too jus

Not sure, but it could be off the transmission ?

Alternatively the front engine cross member mounts - Do the holes line up with anything ? ... :)

Cheers, Bantum ...

okay so im having a problem. i need to take the struts off, how the heck do i do that! the top is super easy of course, but the bottom i cant figure out. i took out all the bolts and still it wont come out, i dont understand... somebody help!

Well, I'm sure someone with more knowledge of the older Subes will chime in, but until then.....if your struts are like the 3rd gen, after the pinch bolt holding the strut body to the hub is removed, you're gonna need to whack the spoob out the hub to get it to pop free of the strut. Or if you're lucky, just stand on the hub with a bar and it'll pop.

Yea once you take the pinch bolt off and the back bolt that lines it up you make need to put a screwdriver in to wedge the strut out of the hub. If you have another sets of hands it may help.

alright, thats the mission for tomorrow. i cant seem to get the strut hats on, so im thinking this will make it easier

The front is lifted! Man that was difficult haha! The front crossmember blocks were easy, bolted right up, the rear crossmember blocks were different though, i had to drill them out bigger to accomodate the bolts. No big deal, until i got to the strut hats. First, i had to cut and grind them down to fit. Then i had to widen the holes with the milling machine. I ended up taking both the struts completely out and forcing the hats on, then putting the struts back in. Had to beat the struts out with a hammer! Camber is off, but im not worried about that right now, i'll fix it later.

gonna get the rear lift done by the 20th i hope, along with the steering extension and the shifters, that way i can take my grandpa out for a ride when he comes up for christmas and show him how far its come! (this was his brat that he gave to me) cant really figure out how to make these shifters work, i want to cut and weld so they fit through the holes in the trans tunnel, but they are stinkin aluminum! so i think im just going to build new ones.

im not sure but it looks like you put the lift blocks for the front in wrong . like the left on the right side and the right on the left side. That may be why you have so much camber. just my thoughts . looks sweet lifted though nice work

Yeah i realized that before i put the struts back in, luckily the tops just spin around so i didnt have to switch them. That picture actually makes the camber look worse than it really is, its like 4 degrees off, no big deal. Thank you! It sits a lot higher than i imagined!

Built a steering extension today! Im pretty proud of it

okay quick question guys, what tire size should i buy for this thing? im thinking 205-70r15s right now but im afraid they will look too small, what do you guys think?

  • Author

ive got a chance to buy an ej25 with the matching transmission and rear differential for 300 bucks... i want to build the ej25 and then swap it into the brat! i know it will take major mods but im up for it, what do you guys think?

Buy it.

Even if you don't use it, you can resell it. That's a killer price.

  • Author

Well the ej25 needs its heads rebuilt... Still worth it?

You would want 2.2 heads anyway. They need to be SOHC to fit in the brat.
