Ok so I got a wild hair and did some poking around for a while till I found this... just wish I could find the audio clip.

Which made me think on it a little different so a new round of searching brought me to this.

I got linked here and thought of the possibilities.  http://www.stainlessheaders.com/flanges

Enjoy

Seems to go OK as well. Now goes a bit better now as this was a single Hitachi, now has twins :-)

Hey! So this brings up a question I have!!   I was reading the owners manual for the 1983 GL wagon. It says to shift at 26 MPH out of 1st into 2nd.  This puts me at 5500 RPM.  Isn't that a bit high for a 200,000 mile motor? does anyone have a suggestion for the perfect shift point. I've been riding it to around 3.5k-4k rpms.

I think that 3.5k to 4.0k rpm's is just about right as a shift point for an EA engine. Too much lower than 4k and you won't get enough power out of it. Too much higher than about 5.0k rpm's and cylinder head limitations (breathing restrictions) start to make the power and torque drop off.

In my humble opinion there isn't really a point in pushing a 200k mile engine much higher unless you are looking for a rebuild project ;)

These engines are made to spin fast. The dual valve springs are typical for high rpm engines.
