Oil pours out when driveshaft is removed... Normal?

Featured Replies

Currently in the process of pulling my diff to weld it, and I removed the driveshaft and oil came pouring out. Didn't know if this is supposed to happen? Didn't happen on my impreza when I did the clutch

I second that, and what a mess...

Sandwich bag and a rubber band takes care of that.

A cap from a can of spray paint also works well as a plug.

I have a driveshaft I cut off in the junkyard.  I use that as a plug whenever I have to pull a trans. It fits perfectly and makes it not leak :)

I'd be worried about the amount of oil in the tranny of your Impreza if it didn't come out.

Or you had it parked slightly downhill. It doesn't take much of a slope before oyu can stop it.

Well at this point it doesn't really matter, I totaled her  :banghead:  :banghead: . Damn airbag replacement alone is like 4K.

well, that's one way to solve a mechanical issue...

Ahahaaaahaha! :D

airbag 4k?

drove 35 years without an airbag. I know they come in handy.

hope you had full insurance. I had a 96 outback about 11 years ago. bought for 3500 on ebay. totaled it and Liberty mutual gave me $8100.

Yeah, $4k for an airbag is steep. I was going to suggest getting one from a wrecker, but I guess if you've had an accident big enough for the bag to go off, then there's a lot more work needed... :(

Hope you find a good replacement vehicle

Either getting the exact same car, just unwrecked, or a 83 k5 civillian militarty edition blazer. 7.9 liter deisel. And we're getting what we paid back, so that's nice at least.

I'm probably gonna go to an old blazer, no airbags to hear of.
