rinatm
OK, so mine is loose. meaning the hinge in missing. Now, I can get the original hinge from a junkyard, but I thought about something more creative, like a small chain to connect both sides. What do u think? would it look nice? (I am sure I wasnt the first to think of this option... has anyone here done such a thing b4?)
Jibs
I did with my old Brat, but I took the tailgate completely off, drilled four holes where the tailgate latched into the sides and then use 4 eye bolts to screw into the holes. I then used some heavy guage chrome chain that went from one eye bolt to the other across the back of the Brat. These four holes were equally spaced from each other and were drilled directly across from each other. I then took 6 Chrome carabiners and attached them throughout the chain and attached 3 more pieces that ran perpendicular (Up and Down) to connect to the other pieces of chain. It looked cool, but I took the whole thing off a while ago after I stopped driving my other Brat.
rinatm
I'm affraid I didnt explain myself very well - I am not talking about chains instead of the whole tailgate (although it did cross my mind in some point, b4 I found a tailgate) - I'm talking about how to secure the tailgate, when the original hinges are missing, and I want to secure it, apart from the main lock. Or maybe u were just giving me a different idea? Thanks anyway
northguy
You're talking about the side support bracket, not the hinge at the bottom, right? Personally, although it might look nice when it's parked with the tailgate down, I think the clanging of the chainwould get to me, and the chain banging against the taillight, or inner walls of the bed would either rub paint off or break the lens cover. Why not just take the tailgate off completely, store it until everyone else's is bashed and rusted, then pull it out and have the only nice one on the block? It is illegal here in Israel to get on the road without a tailgate... can't drive this way. I thought also about the annoying noise... dunno yet. northguy
What about one of those nets that are popular in the states to reduce weight and air resistance/ improve gas mileage? Are those legal abroad?
rinatm
No idea, but I think it isn't. This is why I didnt bring one from the US... There is no sense what so ever here in Israel when it comes to traffic regulations...
mcbrat
I'm not sure if there's enough room to have a chain between the tailgate and the sides. the side hinge/supports are made pretty thin so that they fit okay. they are pretty strong too. to get the same strength, you'd have to go with a decent chain... to support the weight of someone on the gate while it was open..... northguy
She'd probably have to surface mountthem on the inside of the bed and then to the inside of the tailgate. Seems like a pain to close the gate.
old sub freak
hey rinatm, not to be off subject but...i,m novis to this internet stuff.i never thought in a million years that a guy from israel, alaska, iowa, and washington state would be "talking" about brat tailgates.....i this cool or what! anyway old stock parts are the easyst fix, with ample junk yard parts it seems . i'm surprized how strict about tires ,tailgates ect. i always thought of israel trucks w/wild paint jobs, tapistry headliner, lookin cool! do some look that way? anyway sorry for being "off subject" if i can figure out how i'll send pic of my brat. take care todd

Great meeting u as well, just that I am a girl, not a guy i always thought of israel trucks w/wild paint jobs, tapistry headliner, lookin cool! do some look that way? Welcome to Israel, there is nothing wild here, there are very VERY few trucks here that look wild. For the plain reason that 90% of the thing u cannot change (meaning it is not street legal) - the 10% will require u to spend a month in the offices dealing with that - too much headache. GeneralDisorder
Your not allowed to paint your car??!? GD
rinatm
Paint is allowed - no one bothers. Brats here are either white or off-white. I've been thinking to paint mine to Lemon-Yellow. What I meant in not allowed - changing engine, tires size is a real headache, same goes to making it 4X4 (for the ones who have 2X4 like me and most of the other brats here).... rinatm
Trying not to. IsraBrat I have a question for u --> do u know where can I get a bow for my brat?
IsraBrat
Hey Rinat, by bow I'm guessing you mean a Rollbar... Its not a problem at all, every metal framing workshop can do it in no time. just try to avoid the 4x4 "specailist" workshops around, if they won't laught at you when they will hear it's for a Subaru they will charge you twice then the regular metal workshops. Hope it helped. Roi
