where to buy parts online?

Recommended Posts

Ru's check engine light is on and the trouble code light under the dash is flashing the code for egr valve. Where is a good place to buy a replacement valve? - the local shops don't carry it and the dealer wants $200.

thx

The EGR code on EA82 cars doesn't actually refer to a malfunctioning EGR valve. It refers to the EGR solenoid, which is a bit cheaper to replace.. last time mine crapped out, I picked up 4 or 5 from a wrecking yard for about $1.50 each.. 2 of them ended up being good.

whoa, I am corrected. I do need the egr solenoid. Last time it failed on my EA82 it was $100 from the dealer. Its just a little thing on top of the engine with a two wire connector and a couple of ports if I remember right. If I could find 4 or 5 at the junkyard that would be good.

thx

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks to carfreak85 for the post regarding my bad egr solenoid. I bought a part for $85 from subaruparts.com in Tacoma and its working great, the check engine light went out and the Maryland emissions testing folks are happy with Ru's exhaust for another 2 years. The subaruparts website has a form you can fill out if you don't have the part number and Trish emailed me right back.

I have to say that www.subaruparts.com may be a good source, but their prices are HUGE. They charge about $450 for a 6 disc changer for a WRX, and I got mine (almost brand new) from my mechanic for $45 with two speakers and the factory sub/amp included. The website also wants about $75 for the wiring harness for that stereo setup, and I got one at the JY for $5. I can't say I'd be willing to purchase my parts from that site. Just my two cents.

You have to remember that this is a *dealer* (Tacoma Nissan-Subaru, to be precise) selling *new* Subaru parts. Of course, a junkyard, parts store, etc. will likely be cheaper...but as far as dealers go, they are one of the cheapest out there by far. Not to mention being able to purchase and/or get a quote straight from their website using a part number is a huge help. :)

Oh...well I guess I didn't know that :P. Thanks for the info. But I agree that it's a good resource nonetheless.

Check out importedcarparts.com

I bought my oil pump through them for about $70, a boot for the cv, and a couple of other misc. parts. So far, everything has been working great. Their prices are cheap, and the parts are good. Give em a shot for whatever.
