Recently purchased a loyale wagon, been driving it for about a month with no issues, turned on the ac the other day  FOR THE 1ST TIME and was driving down the highway. After about 4 mins of ac running car shutoff and would not restart, had to be towed. NOTHING WORKS except horn, hazards and key in ignition chime. PLEASE HELP IM AT A LOSS. THANKS IN ADVANCE

check your fusible links and fuses

Fusible links are in the brown box mounted off the coolant overflow bottle

 

Give them a gentle tug and wiggle. If they fall apart there's you're issue.

All the fuses check out good, 2 of the links were brittle and ripped when I pulled on them and the other 2 were okay. I made 2 new ones with similar gauge wire and still nothing, even tested the main relay under the dash and it was clicking so I assume that works

Get the proper fusible links as soon as you can. Running regular wire could cause a fire.

 

If nothing works after that bridging effort, I'd be checking plugs above the drivers feet - starting with the ignition barrel's connection.

I feel like the ac had something to do with it. It just shut off and that was it, I just made the links to see if it would crank i will definitely be getting originals in there. It’s bazar to me that the horn works and the hazards and the damn key chime, but nothing else has any signs of life. She was driving great since I picked it up...

These barrel connections you speak of are above the drivers feet?

Does the engine crank ?

No crank from the engine dee2. No dash lights, no interior lights, no headlights, no brake lights. 0nly the horn works and the hazards and the key in ignition chime. Nothing works it’s crazy

Also check the crimps on the wire that go into the bottom of the fusible link box.  An open there could explain the failure.

 

Only hazard, horn and key chime?  I'll look at a schematic and see if anything looks likely.

 

Also, a relay clicking is only testing the coil side.  The contacts could be non functional.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, When it comes to electrical issues I’m useless lol I’m more of a mechanical person. The wires look great under the link box as due most of the wires under the hood... It was running so good until I used the ac, idk if it was a coincidence or that is what caused the shutdown

The red fusible link powers the horn and the hazard lights, so it is ok.

 

The black fusible link wire should be connected to the heavy white wire in the bottom of the fusible link box.  That white wire is the main feed from the alternator back to the battery, the feed to the ignition switch, and the feed to the A/C fuse.

 

You need to check for voltage to ground [car body or battery negative] at places along those paths.  Voltmeter, or even just a 12V light bulb with some wires. 

 

To find this problem, we have to check things and rule out what is correct.

 

Using the meter or light bulb, is 12V on the stud on the back of the alternator?  It is the single connection with a fat white wire held on by a nut.  There should be a black rubber cover over it.  Be careful not to short it to any other metal.

 

If power is there with the car off, the fusible link is ok.

It’s a 5 Speed, thanks a lot for this information I really appreciate it. I will check all of this stuff tomorrow in the am It’s my day off, my buddy is coming by to assist me he’s better with electrical issues. Hopefully we find something. Thanks again DaveT and everyone else that is helping

Check battery and terminals.

 

Need a good battery, clean posts and clean and tight clamps.

Battery is fine idosubaru... deft a short or a relay, heading out now to tinker with her. Hopefully i get somewhere today

One time I parked and 2 hrs later went to start and I was flat dead.. turned out to be the wire that connects to the starter slid off the tab, it was truly amazing to had found my problem with in 15 mins. I wish the same to you ????

 

To me ... it looks like all those things that work have a ground attached separately with the ignition turned off.. so part of the system is charged... alternator? Starter?

Another check to verify as I am not there... Put the key in rum position. Does the dash light up with all the warning lights? Do the headlights turn on?

Nothing works but horn, hazards and chime for key in ignition

That's the way I was reading it, just wanted to be sure.

 

Check for voltage on both sides of the fusible links. A lot of the electric stuff runs through the ignition switch, and possibly a relay or 2. I can look at schematics later tonight. Need readings of voltage yes no at various points to try to point in a direction to go furthwr.

Checked both sides fusible link for voltage and I’m getting 12.59 On both side all four

Also tested the starter 12 V on there also

Ok need to see if it is getting to any fuses. Some should have 12v.

12.59 means battery very near full charge.

 

Verify that both sides of fuses have the same voltage.

OL horn,hazards,clock 12v

OL spfi 12v

OL position dr lock 12 v

Everything else is 0
