I'm putting new head gaskets on a EA82T. Whats the general concensus on using a gasket sealer when doing this? I used the spray on copper stuff for a EA81T before, and didnt have any problems. So has anyone else used it?

i like doing it with the spray on stuff one less chance of it leaking around the water ports

Gasket maker will say NO. I've used it on diesel Chevys but not on a Sube and I dont think I would. Just make sure the block and head are very clean, I like to block them with a long sanding board. The surface finish is important, to course and the gasket wont fill and seal, to fine and the metal wont have enough "tooth" to hold the gasket, try to perserve/match the OEM surface.

I used the spray on copper coat on my EA82T headgaskets. Had to get back into the engine and didn't use the spray on the advice of a longtime subaru tech the second time around. He said the gaskets(subaru factory) comes with the sealer cast into it.

When I did the gasket on my Brat, I looked at the Fel-Pro instructions, and they say to use whatever the vehicle manufacturere sugests. I looked in the FSM and it said to use some sort of head gasket sealer. I didn't use anything, and it's been great, but the manual does sugest a sealer:

"Apply head gasket sealant THREE BOND 1201 (004403008) or DOW CORNING #92-024 evenly to both sides of the new cylinder head gasket with a brush."

Addmitedly this is for EA81's and EA81T's, but I don't see why it would be different for an EA82T....

Ya, I use the Permatex copper spary too, that stuff rocks. I use it on all my rigs, as well as at work, anytime I do a HG.

Light coat of permatex copper spray... CCR does this to their HG's as well.
