Whos turbod with no muffler

Featured Replies

Like the title says, who's running an EA81-T and/or EA82-T without a muffler? How does the car sound (is it loud or not)? I know this is a subjective question but I'm still contemplating what muffler to get but heck, if I can run without one, so be it. Thanks!

i was but it was to loud so i bought a cheap one from autozone

threeeyedbandit was running his RX without one for a while, really wasn't too loud to me, but i grew up around noisy american cars:rolleyes:

we put a 'blue streak' glass pack on, sounds pretty good

I ran one off-road and it was not loud enough to drown out the voices of spotters or the radio, and it sounded sexy. But it was loud enough that a cop would probably do something about it.

All I've got is a cat. conv. and no muffler on my EA-81T with 2.5" pipes and I love it. The turbo muffles well and it is not too loud, although it'll bark if I want it to. It's not exactly quiet, but it's not unbearingly bad, I like it a lot, I'd say do it.

My Turbowagon has no muffler, then I put a cherry bomb on it.. then the cherry bomb flew off around a corner and we never found it, so yah now it has no muffler. Sound pretty good, beefy enough to scare the ricers

Danbob's wagon is muffler less. He just put in a straight pipe to replace it. Not loud at all. Has a good bauble to it when he's on it.

everyones right.. my RX didn't have a muffler for a while, and if you put it next to my brat (which has NEVER had a muffler, and won't) the RX is just plain quiet. the DB level of the turbo is nothign compared to what some ride, but it still is noticable. long as you still have the cat on, it's not unbearable

Mine is catless and stright pipe all the way....2.5"...and....well...its still quiet. I dont know how. Quiet meaning that an N/A subaru with borla header, high flow cat and a stromung cat back is 4x louder.

huh? I could not hear the question can you repeate?

as I just completed the TD04 swap and have only the cats and a turn down on it right now. its frigging loud. engine braking down a long hill makes your head hurt. idle sounds nice but thats all.

now if I were to run pipe out the back it would make it a good deal more pleasant to hear inside. I plan to put a glass pack on to avoid unwanted attention from the guys who drive crown vics with light bars on top.

I have 3" straight pipe, cats (WRX down, midpipe) and it's loud, but not unbearablely so. Nice rumble at idle, nice growl at speed. Maybe as loud as a fart-can exhaust but much deeper without the annoying pitch...

Wow, thanks for the responses. Seems you can get anywhere from a ' it's kinda quiet' to 'It's loud'. I thought it would be the same across the board.

Looks like the only thing to do is get a muffler but do a straight pipe without a muffler first just to see how it sounds like.

Now, I'll thumb through some old posts to see exactly which straight through muffler is a direct bolt on but is relatively quiet. Thanks all!

Yah, my 89 GL10 is catless and straight 2 1/2" pipe all the way. It's not bad with the foot on the gas but if you're up there in the RPM and you let go of the gas, it's really loud. Apparently, straight pipes aren't illegal in British Columbia, Canada.

alright I could not take it any more. I ran some 2 1/2 pipe to a glass pack and out the back. oh so much nicer. I get to enjoy my sterio system now.

please note that when no muffler is used but the pipe is run all the way out its not too bad inside. its when you end the exhaust UNDER the car that it is unbearable to drive.
