April 21, 200520 yr Here's a pic of the fenderwell of my Brat and of the 28x8.5 swampers I'm running. I had a friend cut the seam on both sides and did some trimming, but they still rub like mad. My question now is, should i have another friend cut it and weld some sheet metal there so it doesn't rub, or should i just get a BFH and smash it in an inch to an inch and a half. Would it screw up my pedal assembly by doing this and create problems on the passenger side as well if I hammered it? Thanks.
April 21, 200520 yr Thats a tough call! how high is your lift, and Have you adjusted the front struts all the way? Here's a pic of the fenderwell of my Brat and of the 28x8.5 swampers I'm running. April 21, 200520 yr I take it there is no lift on the vehicle! The biggest tire you can fit under there is probably no larger than a 27" with the torsion bars torqued and front struts cranked up. I dont think you could beat your fenderwells enough to make those tires fit. Thats a tough call! how high is your lift, and Have you adjusted the front struts all the way?
April 21, 200520 yr um... theres no way hes working with a non lifted rig, if hes runing those tires.... you have to cut the fender back, almost to the door, then pound the metal back, with a 5lb hammer, or an air hammer works good too. your gonna be hammering closer to the clutch than anything, and i've never had a problem pounding it way back... cept for the whole door adjustment afterwards =]
April 21, 200520 yr with my old 4/3" pk davis lift and 27" super swampers ssr's. a lot of pounding fixed the front. but with my brand new 31's on the 8" lift i'm going to have to cut away at the wheelwell, and cover the hole with steel plate... make sure you trim the fender also if you haven't already. if you can roll the inner edge of the fender or cut it way away from where the tire could hit it. that way you prevent cutting or tearing the lugs with the fender.
April 21, 200520 yr just beat it back. I beat mine back about 3", and that was with a 4/3 BYB lift. But that was for 30's. the leading edge of the door hinge was even with the "new" back of the wheel well no pedal issues. may have to re-adjust doors as they could move from the pounding.
April 21, 200520 yr Usually, the worst ruggin happens on the inner wall. Look for the shiny spot, beat it back. I successfully ran the same tires you have on an unlifted hatch. No rubbing, no damage to the doors.
April 21, 200520 yr or should i just get a BFH and smash it in an inch to an inch and a half. im sure thats aimed at makin me look dumb, i was going by the inch and a half comment.
April 21, 200520 yr Author im sure thats aimed at makin me look dumb, i was going by the inch and a half comment. What? Now I'm confused. Don't worry about it, I don't think you're dumb. ShadyIrishman - Look in my signature, I AM running with a lift. I wouldn't try fitting these tires on a non lifted soob. (No Offense Zapar. ) I'll try beating it back a little, I don't need TOO much room.
April 21, 200520 yr I'll try beating it back a little, I don't need TOO much room. I've found a 3lb hammer with short handel does not work well enough. Get a 5lb with a longer handel!
April 24, 200520 yr SWEEEET brat!!! Them wheels look awesome, what size are they? And you said the tyres are 31" huh? I see why you need the lift now..
