Finally doing some offroading!!

Featured Replies

I finally got to do a bit of offroading on friday!

I had been jones for it since I bought the car. Just never found the time or the place.

My new air filter sucked up a lot of water and it took all day saturday for it to dry out. :(

I am gonna have to make a snorkel. Anyone have snorkels that are removable to keep the car looking nice when not offroading?

Here is a short video of the fun.

Probably have to create a login to see the video.

Couldn't get the video to work but...

Your air filter is totally exposed

I'm not sure how you'd go about protecting it as is

For muddin you'd be miles ahead with a stock setup!

Pics are great!

Like Sweet said, go get yourself a stock intake setup.

Cone filters are good for on road power and driving, but offroading through water and mud this one is a sure way to stall your car.

Looks like fun. To bad it doesn't rain here that often :(

If you're running spfi you can rotate the rubber tube, maf and filter back into the spare tire area, its not the best, but its much better than stock.

Two real easy solutions to the intake.

Stock air box. I run one minus the plastic drain trap in the inner fender; removed that. It just gets full of gravel and mud.

Rotate intake snorkel you have on there 90 degrees clockwise. So it sits where your spare was. Put a splash guard up and around to protect it from... splashes :)

Run it into the cab...

Actually my friend already suggested this. Has anyone ever tried? Maybe I get to be the first! :)

Keep the windows cracked and the vents open it wouldn't be so bad. Just noisey.

That is really a good idea. Alot of guys running rigs in serious mud and water run their intakes into the cab. I have seen quite a few dedicated mud trucks with this setup and it works great. They also mount the radiators behind the cab to help keep mud out of them.

looked like it was a blast

is it me,or do you only have one wiper going there??

I just converted a jeep snorkel to fit my subaru now I can ford through 4 ft of water if I wanted :brow: . I will pictures on my website soon.

Upon further investigation I've realized I gave bad advice here. Never be too proud to admit when you are wrong :)

Stock air box minus inner 'snorkel' inside the fender is NOT good enough for seriouse mud! Worked fine most of the time but when you get in the deep and nasty you will get mud up into the air box! Muy muy bad mojo :o

looks like you had a good time.running it into the cab sounds like a good idea:)

I have both wipers, just one of them is a winter blade. I got one of those gooffy ones with the booty to keep it from freezeing this winter. It sucks in the rain, I just haven't gotten a new one yet.
