September 27, 200322 yr I got in trouble today. I went to my favorite yard and they had just got a 78 2WD wagon in. Original TX vehicle, NICE condition, no rust buckets in Tx !! BEAUTIFUL interior. And they still have the title. The engine threw a rod, but no biggie, I have 3 extra engines. It's automatic!! I have wanted an automatic 70s for some time! The trans seems good! 130 K. I bought it!! More work for me! I think I'm crazy. I rolled up the windows and rolled it into a corner till I can tow it home! Anybody know ANYTHING about a 70s automatic???? Todd
September 27, 200322 yr The only significant differences between the 70's automatic and the 80's automatic are the bell housing and the design of the filter screen.
September 27, 200322 yr more work? if you have the space just store it until you can get to it man...congratulations. wheres paul on this one? flowmaster, save that **** for Iclub dude
September 27, 200322 yr Author I'll get pics when I get it! Gimme a break guys! I just found it today. I don't carry my digital camara in the tool box! LOL At anyrate....I was just excited, so I had to share it with you all. So are the 70s autos fairly reliable? is 130K kinda high for it? What usually messes up on them? What would be the cost for a decent rebuild if needed? Forgive the questions, of all the 70s knowledge I have, I am severely lacking on automatics. Todd
September 27, 200322 yr Todd, you would be the person to ask. Either you or Moosens, not much of us know anything about those old rigs. Great score tho! My 1st sube was a '79, and i have a chance to get a '78 but with a 4spd. Do they make some sort of MMO for auto trannies? 130K isnt alot in the Subaru world, the tranny should still be good. -Brian
September 28, 200322 yr Author hmm......Email me your price. What do you think shipping may be. Fedex freight via pallet is the cheapest. I have an account with them. Todd
September 28, 200322 yr Very nice. Congratulations. Maybe you'll revise your estimates on roadworthy Soobs still in existence? Also--anyone out there know anything about the 360 auto-clutch?
September 28, 200322 yr Todd,FedEx Ground should be well under $100.I've used them a few times on trannies and it's never been more than $70 or so.Once you get into "freight" it's extra.
September 29, 200322 yr Author Here's my new baby!! It was headed to the crusher Wednesday. I don't know how it survived not being stacked on a car or having a car placed on it!! That's not rust on the sides, its splashed with mud all over! Anyway, I need to think of a name for her. Todd
