August 31, 200718 yr Today I replaced the knock sensor, easy enough. But, I forgot to reconect the Air Sensor ( disconnected for convenience). The cel came on, and even after reconnecting it, it remains on. I performed a search here, but was unable to find specifics on how to turn off or reset the CEL. I assume disconnect the battery. Anything more, please speak up. Thanks!

August 31, 200718 yr 1/2 hour will wipe out the learned settings (not that it matters). It actually may be as short as a minute to reset the light, but i know its not 30 minutes

August 31, 200718 yr Some Subaru years/models can have a rough idle and CEL/MIL I think if the battery is not left disconnected long enough. I forget the details; something about erroneous data being in the memory. There's an article on EndWrench about it.

It will still store the code in memory, but it won't be lighting th cel any more. I think 86's way of doing this is better. Just let the system turn the light out. If everyting is ok it will go out after a number of drive cycles. Some codes will go out immediately if the problem has cleared. By removing the battery, the car will have to relearn conditions of the engine but this isn't a bid deal unless you need to have an IM test done very soon. The monitors will need to relearn also and will take some time to do that normally. If there aren't enough monitors set the testing will stop and you will have to drive longer to allow the computer to set more monitors. This info is more related to OBD2 type systems than type 1.
