June 26, 201411 yr Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! She is off to get her 100% custom exhaust built! Down to the wire... time to choose an exhaust tip! Hmmmmmmmmmm... what will it be???
June 26, 201411 yr Choosing from those three, I prefer the Black one. In my own humble opinion, it suits better the overall look of the car. And looks more "Racer" than "Ricer" you know... Kind Regards.

June 27, 201411 yr Sweet! and right in my back yard too. I'll have to check them out next time I need an exhaust fab. Lots of places are shying away from the custom stuff these days.
June 27, 201411 yr You should get a set of center caps to go with those Enkei's : Note : I think the original caps are either f or m ... More details here : http://www.hirano-tire.co.jp/enkei/enkei5.htm Cheers, Bantum ... Edited June 27, 201411 yr by Bantum

June 30, 201411 yr Looks and sounds great, Jamie! Just seeing how your ff-1 was able to chirp first gear in your vid tells me that that can't be the original transmission in there. I find it very difficult to chirp any wheels of the gears in my '71 probably because of the original gearing and the fact that it still has an EA61 (1000cc's) . Your ff-1's exhaust sound fabulous. Any chance of sharing some pics with us of the finished engine bay?

Any chance of sharing some pics with us of the finished engine bay? yes it is my understanding the trans is no where near OE. As I understand it, it is built out of 3 different components case is from a '72 FF1 internal gears are from EA81 FWD circa 1980+ the rear housing is from that ea81 trans. I'm struggling with it a bit as Reverse is not working and it looks like I will have to remove the trans from the car to sort it out. I don't DOOOO transmissions so that will be interesting. I will start hosting some build photos and get them uploaded Been very busy and I do apologize for not keeping you all posted!
July 2, 201411 yr "header" shot. the amount of detail that went into the craftsmanship involved here is staggering. they started with.... nothing. just a parts diagram as a reference and a blank canvas! Edited July 2, 201411 yr by Subie Gal
July 6, 201411 yr SOME UPDATES! Mid 70's Genuine Subaru tachometer that had been installed in place of the OE speaker grille. I liked the idea but liked the SUBARU logo on the original grille even more. Guess I will have to gauge my speed by feel I can do that. I'm a professional so on the hunt i went.... OE speaker grille found from an FF-1 cut in 1/2 (yes... in 1/2!!!) in a field in MN. God Bless the seller on craigslist who trusted me enough to ship it to me. I reconditioned and repainted it and now it has a new life.
July 7, 201411 yr I agree the speaker grille looks much better 'OEM'. If you still want a tacho you could always hang it of the steering column shroud in a pod or the dashboard. If you look at the following catalogue it was obviously on option to stick it on the dash top: http://a15ff11300g.sakura.ne.jp/catalogue/SUBARU1000/42.10%20subaru1000/42.10%20subaru1000%20sub.html Of course later versions got a 3 dial instrument cluster: http://a15ff11300g.sakura.ne.jp/catalogue/SUBARU1000/43.2%20subaru1000%20&%20360%20salespaper/42.10%20SUBARU%20passenger%20car%20series.html There was one of those on Yahoo Japan some time ago... i wonder if it is still listed? July 7, 201411 yr Just had a look on Yahoo Japan and it seems the cluster is not longer listed... But there is this rather cool steering wheel: http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m116567865

I'll be looking for that optional tach
July 7, 201411 yr MOAR changes. Re-Installed the "deluxe" badge (Right) and FF-1 badge (lower left) - painted the FF badge for effect. Center badge reads "Subaru" - - Awwwww Crap. now I have to work out how to paint the rest of the badges. My hand is not that steady. Any volunteers? Finally. She has her vintage style stone guards in place! Woooot! Going to her first car show this weekend. Trying hard to get ready!
July 8, 201411 yr very cool! thank you for the insight!! I'll be looking for that optional tach Now that I think about, that was probably a clock not a tacho!! Oh well the effect would be the same...
July 8, 201411 yr I realise it would not be easy or cheap... But I wish the rear wheel arches could be put back to OEM... You seriously have to lower the rear!!
July 8, 201411 yr I realise it would not be easy or cheap... But I wish the rear wheel arches could be put back to OEM... You seriously have to lower the rear!! So much that I do not believe I can make OEM - the arches were completely modified. Heck, I don't even have anywhere to mount up seat belts as the mounting holes were cut and filled I do have my work cut out for me.... we were trying to work out how to lower the car as well. It is on the list.
July 8, 201411 yr btw for the center caps I choose F, as it is the most period correct. MN is like an ancient indian burial ground for miscellaneous subaru parts, you'll never find a complete car but you'll find a farmer with a EA82 he has been using to pull around his generator or some old subaru parts at a swap meet.

Already refreshed and installed the center caps that came with the Enkei wheels. I need to get an updated photo. They look okay. Still not my favorite - but a lot better than nothing at all.
