Well, tomorrow I try and resurrect the 85 wagon... It's been sitting for a little under 2 years (due to clutch going bad, large amounts of work, and no money).

So, I'm going over to my in-law's house where it has been parked to try and slowly resurrect it. I'll make sure to take pics for everyone...

Wish me luck.

good luck yo! subarus are fairly simple as far as cars are concerned. yeah, subaru is an odd breed, but they make sense when its time to get your hands dirty.

keep the progress posted, ask if you run into something....

I think the main thing is the battery... Clutch is on the way out, but not gone... I drive mostly on the highway, so I should be alright there... gonna see how bad it runs, then do a tuneup over the next few months...

Its about time if you ask me! What happend? Did you jeep finally fail?

Gimme a shout on MSN next time im on :))

no, the jeep didn't fail me... I've just been driving my sis-in-law's old escort back and forth to work (60 mile round trip), and it blew a tire the other day, and then she sold it to her cousin, so I'm without a daily driver. So I figured I should get it out of mothballs.

Surprisingly the gas is good. At least it seems to be. Was hard to get it started at first (battery was DEAD), but I sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb to clean the gunk out, and it also helps to start the vehicle.

Got it started, and let it run. Drove it about 20-odd miles to charge the battery. Runs good, clutch is toast, and I'm going to do a tune-up on it. Gonna do plugs, wires, and coil at the very least. Definitely an oil change using an OEM filter. Might see if I can get some SeaFoam to clean the interior of the engine out...

I'll post some pics later tonight of what the engine compartment and stuff looked like...

put some explanations in there... pics were taken after I had aired the tires up. The worst problems I had were the tach was funny for the first few minutes. It would go up to about 3k and then just die. Put the clutch in and it would be fine again...

Like I said, going to do a few tune-up type items for now, and try and get the interior cleaned out of all the presents... Maybe shampoo those carpets, get the bumpers cleaned up eventually, and then the paint. All the clearcoat has come off the hood, and is slowly peeling off the rest of the body too. Going to try running a tank of 91 through there just for grins also.

What spark plugs does everyone recommend? Probably just go with factory wires unless someone has another suggestion. Definitely going with an aftermarket coil though...

get a set of 8mm wires... i got a custom fit set for a V8, and cut mine to size. They work great with my coil... both are made by Accel.

Also, get NGK plugs, the best for our sube's.

got something sittin in the passenger seat of my wife's cherokee... 4 Genuine OEM Subaru (NGK) plugs and a Genuine Subaru Oil Filter. Going to pick up some oil in the next day or so. Probably be Castrol... Any recommended weights?

**EDIT**

If I run SeaFoam through, do you think I should do it before or after I change the plugs? I'm thinking before.

Wheres the rest of it? The car/rotor/wires? If your going to do it, do it right;) I would use 10-W40 for the first run, maybe 3/400mi, and buy a Puralator filter. Then pick a good brand of oil and use the OEM filter.

One thing at a time. Plus, I'm going with some aftermarket wires/coil for a little more power. Will need a new cap and stuff though...

BTW, does anyone have a part number handy for the cap and rotor? The dudes here are complete morons...

I don't know that I'd run 20-50w oil in your car, 'specially in the winter, I didn't see where you lived, but unless it's Miami, I'd think that would be too thick. I use 10-30 in the winter. I have had good luck with the Bosch double electrode plugs, but my car is slightly newer (93)

I see you didn't buy a fifth plug, are you going to remove the EGR valve?

Parts are as follows:

EGR gasket fel-pro 70978 or 12-3075

air fliter wix 46016

oil filter wal mart/fram ST3682

dist cap MPI C631

add a fuel filter under the air box

GKI 33011 slice n' splice

GKI 33204 under car by axle

Accel coil 8140C

20w-50 Castrol GTX.

Higher mileage engines do well with the thicker oil - if it's under 100k, then 10w-30 is alright. I personally like to keep my oil pressure up.

And no - I don't live in Maimi. It's was 15 degrees here last week, and both my soobs started right up - one even has a crappy, dieing battery. 20w-50 will be fine.

I catch most of that. I already have the oil and air filter.
