January 24, 200422 yr has anybody ever heard this, sounds like theres a goose under the hood, only sometimes. sounds like its where the alternator is. its an ea81 with no power steering, or ac. alternator, or water pump? anybody ever heard a goose under the hood before?
January 24, 200422 yr accidentally pressing the horn? I think you need to be more descriptive than "goose"
January 24, 200422 yr I know the sounds your talking about. I've heard it on 3 different vehicles. It's kinda like a constant honking noise, but not the horn. I've had it happen on all Auto cars, never in manuals. And if I turn the engine off (key off), then back on again, it goes away for a considerable amount of time. I was thinking it was the AT's pump going out.
January 24, 200422 yr before you dive in deep and check all that, i'd suggest first looking for water foul. that would explain the symptoms.
January 24, 200422 yr Author believe me, it sounds crazy. its horrible. kinda like a fan stuck, and trying to move. almost sounds like a wind whistle on crack. just like a honking goose. i hit the horn, and it works good, even when the goose is honking so i dont think its a malfunctioning horn. just thought id see if anybody has had it happen, i cant figure it out. but it does only happen when its cold as hell, and i cant investigate for more than 10 minutes, before i start to freeze to death.
January 24, 200422 yr your old rusty wagon made a hollow low whistling sound when it was cold outside and so does the red wagon i got from you. i figured it was either the fan clutch or one of the belt tensioners lockin up havent found the source yet....... the FM microphone i tried picked up too much tinny noise, couldnt hear the odd sound........ still puzzled, and frozen
January 25, 200422 yr my car's electric fan is shot. it has a horrible shriek that could sound like an exceptionally distressed goose.. try unplugging your fan and see if it goes away?
January 25, 200422 yr I have to apologize. Andy is correct. My waterpump did make odd noises, but it wasnt the goose noise. When Andy posted about the fan, it jogged my feeble memory. My rad fan was the goose noise, the bearings went out on it prior to the WP going out. My bad, and I deleted my previous posts:rolleyes: Time to order more Focus Factor. Rob
January 25, 200422 yr Author hrmm electric fan is on a switch, so thats off. no clutch fan, on my ea81, so im thinking its gotta be alternaotor, or water pump.
January 25, 200422 yr the way i guessed it, when i first heard it and thought kqj3n4ffil1u35hfpuh!!!!!!!! what is that noise!!, was to turn the car back onto electrical/accessory but not to turn the engine over, and the noise started anyway. since i have my fan hard wired and it comes on instantly all the time, and since it *does* sound like a bearing or something trying to rotate, it was an easier guess.
January 25, 200422 yr Well, its definatly a bearing. But theres no way for any of us to know where or what bearing, cause we cant hear it from here:D Rob
