  1. i get that and am similarly annoyed! but the data suggests decade+ old Subaru's are acceptable enough for you to start with. so very very roughly it would take 10-12 years for a rust-free subaru to receive the same conditions and get to the same condition as the 10+ old local market vehicles you're currently sourcing from. while we're talking - thanks for the mastercraft recommendations, i tried my first set a couple weeks ago, a very good local shop loves them.
  2. Hhhmmm - no codes from the ECU? Could be noise in the cam/crank sensor signals also. I've seen that a few times and being a swapped car the harness routing is always a question mark. And the older stuff had really bad shielding especially on the cam sensor. We see problems with cam sensors signals on the 02/03 WRX's and it's a real pain in the a$$ to troubleshoot and track down the source. Can be as simple as grounding or bad alternator diodes, or just random interference from solar flares and passing airliners. GD
  3. Pretty sure you gotta lift the motor but I don’t have every model and year memorized. Some day fly out or ship and buy a rust free Subaru. Glorious
  4. 1 point
We don't recommend our customers use anything to clean/protect the dashboard except for mild soap and water. I work for an OEM.
  5. Let's start with the basics. Have you tried hitting the up or down arrow buttons on the bottom left hand side of the steering wheel? Those cycle through different menus where the digital speedo is. They're not on the face of the wheel. Theyre recessed a bit.
  6. they rust out all the time, very common part to fail on those. they're like $50.
  7. I finished the exhaust this weekend! I decided to go with the FlowMaster HP-2 Series muffler. I also decided to take the tailpipe out of the driver side instead of running it under the CV and out the back.
  8. I finally got the motor dropped back in! Unfortunately I found that my voltage regulator has crapped out. I have a new one on order and should be able to fire it up this week sometime. Anyways...here are a few pics of the motor back in its home.
  9. The Alternator and a few other odds and ends have been installed. Now its just up to the weather to cooperate. The new EGR Valve tube is on its way and she will be complete!
  10. The new Clutch kit is installed and the Air injection tubing is repaired and installed. We had to braze the flared end back together and it fits perfectly. Just waiting for a full day of nice weather to drop the motor back in.
  11. Well...I ended up getting the nice pair of rebuilt heads from the folks in Sarasota, FL and got them installed... Now that they are installed I am only looking for a couple more pieces. I am looking for the Air Injection tubing (Spider) and the EGR valve pipe that runs from the head to the intake manifold. Here are a few pics of where its at now....
  12. These are the original starter and alternator/generator. They worked perfectly fine before I tore the motor out so I figured I would just give them a makeover for reinstallation.
  13. Here are some pics of a little more progess in the engine bay. Still trying to find heads to complete the motor at this time. If anyone has any leads on a set please let me know. Thanks ahead of time...
  14. I am trying to get everything cleaned up while I am still looking for replacement cylinder heads (one of mine is cracked ) I decided to go with bedliner in the engine bay. I think the gloss black and clean aluminum is gonna pop under the hood!
  15. She's burnin a lil dirty...
  16. The motor pulled...and the beginning of tear-down...
