  2. Get factory new axle from Subaru. Aftermarket are junk and remans aren't appropriate for turbo models. Subaru discontinued their reman axle program. GD

  3. About those stickers on the tranny. The first 6 digits must match your original transmission. The 7th letter A means 2.2 non-turbo.

  4. And I have a Felpro permatorque gasket handy. And, since the head is OUT of the car, I can easy enough put the springs back on. I'll try for Right Side Up this time [bunched coils at the bottom]

  5. i The retainer cap on the HLA needs to be properly peened to be reinstalled, and I don't know yet how to properly do that. But go get an old HLA and pry that retainer cap off and you'll see what I mean. Just a little cleaning is like night and day. I used a piece of thin galvanized wire to poke that tiny ball valve just a little to let the carb spray in . And, at the base of each valve spring there is a .050" insert [V.S.I. 203 Insert] that was not on the original old engine. I made some inquiries. The rebuilder was knowing enough to restore the spring tension after the valve grind. see pic. So, I spent an extra 5 hours today just to replace a . . . (wait for it . . . ) a perfectly good head gasket! But I just had to know exactly what was up with those valves before moving on.

  7. Best to get everything from a similar year Forester XS or XT and get the matching parking brake cables. That way when you go to buy parts you don't have a red headed bastard on your hands that requires a build sheet. GD

  10. O2 sensors don't work when cold. If the problem is on first start and gets better as the O2's come online then that's not your issue. You have a lot of codes. You should probably start with a tune up (plugs and wires), clean the MAF (scrape the elements with a pick and use brake cleaner), and then clear the codes and test drive. Watch fuel trims, and see what codes return. Cylinder 4 misfire... if it doesn't resolve with a tune up you should do a valve adjustment asap as you may have a tight exhaust valve on #4 which will not end well if allowed to progress. GD

  11. @carfreak85 I don't daily it, no. My living and job situation is kinda up in the air right now, so it's currently sitting in a friend's hangar about 20 miles away. @Loyale 2.7 Turbo yes the Besta/Bongo was a license-built version of the Bongo that Kia made themselves. My Spectron, however, is made by Mazda in Japan (the VIN plate actually says, in English, "manufactured by Mazda Motor Corporation"), that's why it's right-hand-drive. That's one of the strange ironies I enjoy about it, it's badged as a Ford (an American car company) but it's made in Japan for the Japanese market and then it was imported into America Thank you all for the kind words!
