Good Day in Junkyard! LSD -WHOOT-
Nice find. By the way what's holding the LSD up? Or did you take the mustache bar out for clarity in the pictures?

A new class for rallycross?
Interesting thought here: http://tinyurl.com/36j6uj I know quite a few people who could enjoy this new class and get some real use out of their motorhomes which sit idle most of the time. I would think a Subaru powered Vanagon would be quite competitive in this class. I found this just too funny for words. This might belong in off topic......mods could move it if they like.

Where are they???
edrach replied to silverfox's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGood luck with it; remember that 105K is the magic number for when the timing belt (and associated other items as needed) should be replaced. Very important on an intereference engine.

Programming the key for a '99 Forester
We're in the process of purchasing a '99 Forester. It has the electric door locks with the remote lock/unlock module. One of the modules needed a new battery but apparently needs to be re-programmed to work. Anyone know how to do that?

Getting Into Rally Racing???
Check with the closest SCCA club to you. They might be active in rallycross which is the least expensive version to start out in.

Brat Questions????
You have a pull a part yard in Olympia out by the airport. Also another in Tacoma near the Steele St. exit off SR512. Tacoma and Lynnwood are open 9am to 5pm, 7 days a week. Not sure about the Olympia yard.

How to disable that irritating seatbelt chime?
edrach replied to buffybr's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI left the key in the ignition and the door open and looked under the dash of my '91 Legacy until I found the offending chime and unplugged it. After I did that, I had a flashing light on my dash that I covered with black tape so I wouldn't see it....been that way for 6 years now. Blessed silence!

Brat Questions????
Jess, plan on spending a Saturday and Sunday at the Lynnwood Pull a Part yard. There's a green '83 wagon and a red '87 Hatch that would likely have most of the parts you need or want. Not sure what part of the Sticks you live in, but there are many who could help you with advice or info: Baccaruda and Monstaru in Spokane; bratsrus1 in Selah; Zap and I near Seattle....just to mention a few.....I know there are more.

Linky to write up for 5 speed swap?
One can use the original flywheel but the EA82 is better. However, the flywheel bolts used with the original flywheel are a slightly smaller size. Most people don't feel the potential for a small amount of "slop" around the bolts is a problem, but I'm a bit anal. I went to the local hardware store and bought about a foot of brass or aluminum thinwall tubing (somehow I remember 13/64" as the size but don't hold me to that) and cut 1/2" lengths of it and put them on each bolt and that reduced the "slop" to so small that even I didn't care. I went searching for my post on that, but couldn't find it; it was probably on the old EZ board. As to the driveshaft differences, go with a custom single driveshaft. A decent driveshop will charge you less than $100 for one. I started out using the original two piece 'shaft from the donor car but was concerned about the center carrier bearing since it was in an area of minor rust on my Brat. I got a one piece shaft through Jerry and it feels much better. And no worries about the center carrier falling off. The other advantage to the custom shaft is you can get zerks fittings mounted the the u-joints. Last item is that the exhaust pipe support in the center no longer lines up with the 5 speed transmission. As a result the exhaust pipe resonates significantly at around 3000 rpm (cruising speed on the highway for many of us). Fab up a firm attachment for the center of the exhaust pipe to eliminate the resonance completely.

Exit at exit 206 from I-5 and head east on ???. About two miles down the road and on your left; shares a road with a huge lumber yard. They have a huge sign visible from the road.

PAP update
Another trip today to see what's new in Lynnwood. Since my last visit, another '87 hatch, three Legacy wagons, three or four EA82 cars and a couple of EA81 coupes. Someone is starting to take apart that pretty green '83 wagon. Both doors are off and waiting to be removed. I took the tail-lights (I couldn't resist). Still lots of very good sheetmetal on this car.

Don't use 4wd LO(or HI) on pavement!!
Back in the day when I bought my first Subaru (an '86 wagon) and my wife and I were driving it home from West Seattle. Going up a long uphill bridge I realized I hadn't tried it out in 4WD so I engaged it. The car instantly became a stone since the PO had replaced only the front tires with new. I thought, "Omigod, I bought a lemon!" Disengaged 4WD and everthing was normal again. I learned something new that night.....there's always a first time. Luckily no damage and the car lasted me another 140K miles before I sold it. As far as I know it's still running.

Updated!! NW RallyX schedule
There is a slight discrepancy between SCCA and ORG on the date for the June National in Hillsboro. SCCA has it listed for June 28/29. I'm sure this will be resolved before we get to June.
