  1. Packing up the Impreza this morning so I can get to Portland early and enjoy the local ambiance. Looking for enough of you to come out so it'll be a competitive event. See you there; introduce yourselves if you see my wife or me in the blue Imp wagon with the #44 on the side. I'd like to put some faces by the usernames I see here on the board.
  2. If you have them bring your mud tires. 100% to 70% chance for rain starting tonight and extending into Thursday. The field will be damp even before the weekend. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=98660
  3. Not to be a pest, but have you checked the bulbs? It wouldn't be the first time both bulbs were out. If it was both bulbs, check the alternator output at 3500 rpm; if the voltage is above 14.8V the alternator is burning out your low beams because they are most susceptible to premature burnout at high voltage.
  4. Last RX school I went to, there was a shiny new Imp Sti enrolled. Fellow had taped up the entire lower half of the body with some type of protective tape to protect it from rocks and stuff. I'm not sure how he peeled it off; hopefully he had properly waxed it first and pulled the tape off slowly.
  5. Info is now posted. With luck I'll join you down there. I'm still not positive I'll be there altho I'm hoping that I will. Be great to close out my fractured RX season with a run on what looks like a great field. It's about twice the size of the Hillsboro site and all gravel; no grass and if it rains I suspect it'll be a mud fest. So much fun!!!!
  6. Wow, I'm surprised that there's so little interest. The google earth view shows the potential field would be great for RX. Large too, about twice the size of the Hillsboro site. And in the middle of Vancouver; close for you Portland area guys. I still have a 3 hour drive to get there.
  7. No criticism if you didn't come by and no apologies necessary. That wasn't the point of my post. This was an optional thing to do if you had time. Sort of last minute posting the original thread on my part too.
  8. Jeanne and I had a pleasant time. We met an old friend we haven't seen for a while (Ratty2Austin) and made a new friend (Shatzi). We'll try this again sometime.
  9. Does the vibration disappear the instant you let off on the gas? If so, that's the classic symptom of a bad DOJ (inner axle joint). From your description you probably know which side to change first.
  10. Just for anyone's information, there's an '86 Standard at the Arlington Pick n Pull. I'm not going there but if I'm there I'll take a look at it.
  11. If you can make it to Bothell, I have some fusible links you can have. Or drop me a PM with an address and I might be able to make it north this weekend sometime.
  12. So hurry up and drive the EJ swapped car out and show it off! (Sorry, couldn't resist).
  13. Whole hatch is the way to go. But having had to repair 8 broken wires in the harness (at the bend up top), threading the harness down the door pillar is a real pain. It can be done but requires quite a bit of patience. Also if the donor car is significantly older than yours, I'd check the continuity of all the wires in the harness that go around that bend before I install the hatch.
  14. You're entitled to that. But until someone shows me that there are more than 10% errors, I'll continue to use it to narrow down the transmissions I'm looking for. However, I will start to count teeth when I think I've found a suitable replacement.
  15. Apology not needed, but appreciated. Thank you. I didn't mean to curtail what you post. I like this board because people don't flame or get flamed.
  16. Well, you've certainly replaced more transmissions than I have, so obviously I've been lucky in finding the correct gearboxes. Agreed, counting the teeth is the best way to be sure. The symptom information is useful since I've never encountered it although one would have to be pretty dense after replacing a transmission (or rear diff) and not realize that the part that went in is not the right one.
  17. Sorry, I have to take issue with you on this. Gloyale's suggestion is right on by isolating the problem into one of two areas. Once that's done, further troubleshooting in the problem area makes sense.
  18. I had planned to leave out the daytime running light feature. Resistor was disconnected for just the reason you mentioned altho I didn't calculate the actual current. It's a 2002 Impreza OBS wagon. Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of getting the DRL feature back by running it through the foglamps (55W each). I think I can diode isolate the wiring so the fog lights still work. But I'm not averse to having someone smarter than I help out. I can send you the wiring diagram from the FSM if you drop me an email by PM if you like.
  19. I installed my kit today. Just under 25 minutes start to finish. Here's the final pic: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/album.php?albumid=17&pictureid=3734. Only downside is that the Impreza has low beam lights on dim all the time for daytime use. Even the lowered voltage is enough to trigger the low beam relay. I'm not comfortable running them at full voltage during the daytime. I'll likely pull the daytime module and run without them. If I can figure some way to divert the daytime lighting to the foglights I'll do that. Update: I pulled the plug on the dimmer resistor. No daytime running lights but everything else still works.
  20. That truly is a mystery. Sadly FHI never marked the outside of the rear diff with the ratio. Only way to reallly tell is to count teeth on the ring and pinion gear. Impractical for the front, but relatively easy for the rear. Wait until you plan to change the gear oil in the rear, drain out the old, get a new gasket and pull the rear cover off. Count teeth in the ring gear and divide that number by the number of teeth in the pinion gear to determine the true ratio. Obviously, in your case the front and rear ratios are matched.
