Subaru departure and arriavals
Whoa Black Betty, bra-ba-lam... On second thought, I think I might just stick to calling it "the black Brat":) No, Chux, the shell is from my frist Brat, which looks exactly like my second "good" Brat. THe first Brat had too much rust, and so when I started looking for the next Brat, I wanted one just like my first one. I really like the grey with red "Brat" decal. Kurt

Subaru departure and arriavals
Unfortunatly, the Brat is not a turbo, the first owner wanted the bottom stripes, and when he ordered them from the dealer, they kept getting the "turbo" decals by mistake! So finally, he just go feed up and put them on! The gl10 is an auto, and I hope I can get that transmission to shift right! That does have a turbo, and I want to enjoy it at some highway speeds! Kurt

Subaru departure and arriavals
Hello everyobody! When it rains it pours, and around here, it's been pouring Subarus! I just picked up two new to me Subarus, and I am excited to tell everyone a little about them. First is a black 1984 Brat. This car means alot to me, because it is THE very one that got me hooked on Subarus in the first place! A guy in town had it, complete with red wheels roll bar, push bar, tubular rear bumper, and a back window full of decals. I ended up befreinding the owner, but when it did come up for sale, five years ago, I didnt have the money. I always wondered what happend to it. Well, long story short, I tracked the new owner down, just to see it again. Well, the new owner had enjoyed it for a little bit, but he go sidetracked and didnt do much else with it. So he offered to see it to me, and I bought it! I am in the process of getting it ready to be a winter driver. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8805&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 By the way, the last owner kept all the "goodies" for his rust free Brat! Then, as it so happens, I was helping a guy at the auto parts store I work at. He was driving a grey 86 Turbo GL10. I asked him how it was running, just to make small talk (and if I had it my way, all my small talk would be about Subarus!), and he said "$200, and its yours! It wont shift up into 3rd gear, and I dont know whats wrong with it." Well, I thought, heck, I can try to fix that myself, with the help of the USMB, and even if I cant fix it, that motor would be great in the Brat! So, I bought that too! I hope I can fix it though, the bodys pretty nice, and the wife wouldlike to drive it this winter. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8806&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 But at the same time, I had to say goodbye to an old friend. Rust finally got the best of my first Brat, so I just parted it out. We delivered it to the crusher Monday night. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8802&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 But at least the parts from that will help me get the black 84 on the road! Thanks for reading mmy story! Kurt

auto transmission will not shift into high gear...
Hello everybody! I have the oportunity to buy a late eighties Subaru 4 door locally. It is grey, turbo, auto with push button 4wd, moon roof and power windows! Plus, no rust! And, living in Minnesota, thats a big deal! At any rate, the 3 speed transmission will not shift into 3rd. I suspect it is a bad module, but I was going to get everyones consensus. Worst case senario(sp?), would that motor mount up to a) my 85 Brat's 4spd manual, or another late eighties 5 spd manual. Thanks in advance for everyones help! Kurt

Plastic oil filter access covers...necessary?
The problem is that I DID go off roading with it, and now one of the sides is hanging down! But a little JB weld with fix that right up! And your right, its not that big of a deal to take off to get at the filter. But I do like Jamie's idea of an aluminum cover! Kurt

The Good and Bad - Baja
elcaminokurt replied to oobray's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI traded in my 2000 Dodge Dakota on my used 2003 Subaru Baja! The only thing I miss about the Dakota is the color! It was a really sharp orange called amberfire pearl. But anyways, I have had my Baja for a little over a half a year, and I love it! I love the car like handling, I love the great gas milage, and i love the uniqueness! I have been able to haul just as much with the Baja as I would have with the Dakota. Everything from and air compressor to a load of carpet has been in it's bed. The only thing that it woulnt be able to do is haul car trailers to go and get more Subaru parts cars! But, you always seem to know someone that owns a truck thats willing to help! Kurt

Plastic oil filter access covers...necessary?
I have a 03 Baja, and it's kind of a pain in the butt to remove that plastic cover to get at the oil filter for oil changes. Can a person get away with removing the whole cover? Has anyone done it? Any ill effects? Thanks in advance for help! Kurt

Subaru's becoming one happy family
The best part of that is that when it is cold out, you can start the car to warm up, and lock the doors while you go inside to have a cup of joe! Kurt:banana:

New pushbar for the 85 Brat!
Thanks everyone! I have went to Firestone once before, but I am not really an active member of the Minnesota Subaru Message board. I would love for everyone to get together again sometime this fall to hang out, weather it be at Firestone, or whatever! I wounder if Chux knows of any good off roading spots for unlifted rigs? Kurt

New pushbar for the 85 Brat!
Hello everybody! I know its been a long time since I posted, but I dont post much anyways, so, I dont know where I am going with that! Anyways, I finnaly got my push bar done for my Brat. I used the "H" section from a Subaru factory "long" push bar. The side headlight guard bars are off of a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer push bar. Then, the top bar for the "H" is just a peice of black plumbing pipe. I painted it satin black on top, and on the bottom bars, I used spray on bedliner out of an areosol can. I am happy with the way it turned out, and now I just ahve to get together with the Minnesota folk to show it off! Kurt http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=738&ppuser=1391
