got stuck on N-405 today
Geck512 replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I am nervous about doing anything with my Cat. i am an earth concious being and dont know if I can conciously support an increased enviromental impact from my vehicle. Bigger pipes sound expensive I am looking to sell this car soon. (not the greatest rig) Debating between a tubo wagon (would love the the earlier models because the timing belts intimidate me) and a tubo xt or xt6 Not to sure. i have also heard great things about the ej22t... But I do like great gas mileage, decent emissions, and some ooph when I want it. Ram air and turbos seem like the ticket. I reach a point of pushing my gas pedal down when it just doesnt do ****. I can only assume its either spark or air. ::shrug:: All in time. Joshua -

Progress on the EA71 to EA81 suspension swap
Geck512 replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Woohhoo Work it Russ. Looks great so far. I didnt get your reasons for doing this till you posted. Good reasons. The parts cost alone would be a great reason. Plus it looks fun as fun gets. Cant wait to see it lowered. By the way are you going to cut the springs on the back as well? Or are you looking for more of a slope? Joshua Ps how 'bout just outlining what your doing to the back. -

Okay Russ I can totally believe a wound up turbo laying some rubber loose. But an 86 NA gl wagon? Wow! I had an 86 gl-10 sedan that never broke loose and it was a turbo! I mean woah. Was the back end heavy? Tires old? Wet day? Am I driving wrong?? Anyways I guess this grabbed my attention because I love fuel effeciency but I would love the power to "break loose" Joshua -

Hey Russ! I would love to do a rear disc conversion on my car and I need to update the brakes on the front (they are squeling like they need to be replaced) Maybe we can go pull some off this weekend? I am planning on spending some time with Andrew on Sunday. Was thinking pool at the place in albany so I can have a beer. Let me know. -

Damn russ you have been working hard! Way to go man! Talk to you soon. Joshua -
okay to get the carb seated down on my intake I need those four star headed screws. But three of them go into holes that go all the way through. I think I am going to try and get a different bolt in there with a nut on the other side. Three should be good enough for the moment, and I think the blind hole holds its screw =) Joshua

So andrew and russ, I undid those two bolts that hold my C/w on and flipped the sucker over with very little hose removal. Underneath I found the four star bolts. Two of which are stripped. ARGH! So I am going for the carb off of my friends parts car for now. Maybe an intake/carb switch later? =) Be well guys Joshua

Could it be clogged injectors? Just a novices 2 bits Joshua

Thats a good point. What would cause intermitent fuel gauge readings and never showing full tank? *usually the thing shows nothing) I am hoping for a bad solder like I saw in the junk yard. Thanks for the number russ. Hey guys are you free this weekend? My girlfriend is leaving town =) I will miss her but I am thinking of trying to find a tail light and a driver side seatbelt. Lemme know. Joshua

Well today was a good day. I got my 83 a while back, rented a pickup and a tow dolly and drove a few hundred miles to hood river and drug it back to Albany. There, andrew helped me blow off the radiator cap and swap out the distributor. We took the aftermarket radiator to the parts place to get a new cap and figured we would throw in a new thermostat while we had it drained. Well we cracked the thermostat housing while putting it in. No problem we said andrew has two of these laying around. Slap one on and try to attach the hose. ARGH I have power steering, needs a longer gooseneck. Well we jb welded the old one together (twice) and got it to just piss out fluid a little when it was really full. (half full cant be too bad ) Well it doesnt get hot. After some interior work and thinking I had ordered the part online I realized it wasnt coming and I hadnt been charged for the part. Well I call around the yards (andrew warning me power steering wasn't all that common) and found a yard that had just received an 83 1.8 yep with power steering. Well now. I just happened to be heading that way today anyways to get my teeth and gums brutalized by a very kind dental hygenist at the local community college. So before my appointment I dared the rain for my part. Trouble is they hadnt bothered to tell me I couldnt pull anything off the engine because they hadnt run the thing yet and thought it might be worth more as a whole. So I set out looking for my part and out of 20 cars couldnt find it. Until I noticed a car with a totally rusted air filter, after a bit a realized it had burned, and low and behold there was my engine looking like S**t in this car with the right part! Pulled it, got a few wiring harness I needed, and upgraded to the larger all clear light that my 83 doesnt have, all for five bucks. Hopefully I will install it tomorrow. Next on my list is a float for my gas tank. =) Thanks for all your help andrew, russ, and USMB! Still wrenchin Joshua

I am not saying thats not where the computer came from (salvage title) But I have a 2wd 5 spd. Yeah I figured out the same thing. I figure my car is fine! I am thinking about adding a little window for my ECU though. Its kinda nifty to watch it come on when I drive. When I accelerate hard it comes on steady. ::shrug:: General do you know if 83 GL's came with an always on memory (always hot) wire for the memory of the radio (presets and such) I notice they didnt have digital radios? so maybe they didnt someone cut all the harness out of mine so I am having trouble. I also hear there is an issue with fitting cd players in em. PS where can I get better mechanical data for my model of SOob? Thanks

Okay I remember earlier today when I was trying to get my stereo to work plugging together two green harness one with two prongs and one with only one. I think this is what was bringing out the 33 code. (test code showing me all is okay?) I unplugged them with the power off and turned the key to on and got a code 12. Ignition puls system. Is that distributor? =) Thanks for any info Joshua
-
Hmm Sounds good I will try that now. Thanks General Disorder Check back in a few? Joshua

Thanks for the pictures this is really fun to look at. Joshua

I think this one means main system in feedback. Any ideas what this means? Thank you. Joshua

Geck512 replied to Hondasucks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

man Andrew if you figure this one out I might need your help. I got my blinkers up front working and my running lights on the side working and now I am getting the ECS light as well. So what does ECS mean? How did you Check the Codes? Where are the code translations? YEhaW! -
I own an 83 GL 4door and did own an 86 GL turbo 4 door I really liked the turbo. I am looking for a good power to weight ratio, but I would still like fairly decent gas mileage, and a car I can still work on. Which car is for me? The power of the svx and the 94-96 legacy turbo catch my eye. Suggestions?
