Tail lights stay on, dahs lights blink
bheinen74 replied to Prospeeder's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe tailight always on could be a depressed brake pedal switch for the stop lights (if the car was rolled over, i could see that switch breaking or dislodging). the rocker switch on the top of the steering column should light front parking lights too. If you have front marker lights and tailights on, its the column switch, just tails on, more likely the pedal switch.

Starter solenoid ?
bheinen74 replied to Megell's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsolenoid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solenoid not solinoid btw its your starter thats the problem it has worn contact brushes. can be rebuilt with 2.95 in parts or replaced entirely its a common normal issue at that mileage. I had 2 or 3 subaru cars that it went at about 160-175k mileage so yours is overdue. that is all

wrecked legacy / outback parts fit?
bheinen74 replied to pamike's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXangle iron steel or flat steel with hole in the end for a bolt to go thru into radiator support, on the other end, hook the come along. Find a solid structure, another car, etc, and slightly pull the radiator support out to line up to the replacement hood. Use the pre drilled holes in the rad support for the radiator brackets, etc to pull from. easy, cake, I have done this on my brothers deer hit outback. do a little at a time from each hole, a good hammer to wack it will relax the metal and help it come back out

Help! Pulley Issues?
bheinen74 replied to Kerplunk105's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwhat we are saying is the H6 had known tensioner pulley bearing failure of the Timing belt tensioner. You DO NOT Want to have that one blow up. I think Subaru had a service bulletin on the timing belt tensioner so talk to the dealer to see. If you have the AC/alternator belt bearing fail, then the next one to fail is the Tbelt and that is bad cookie.

Walker Pics!!! Biggest meet for Walker EVER!!!!
i am not a offroader pro, hardly been on trails, but i am pretty smart sometimes, so for the "washout area", why not throw a couple spare tires in the low spot to drive over top of, that way nobody would have to bust up the left front bumper/fender/lights??????? one pic shows the marroon wagon hung up over the washout, and on the roof rack is 2 tires, one is just barely laying on there on its end, maybe you did try the tire on the low hole trick. Now, this trip looked like a blast except for the rain/wetness. Cool group of people and subarus for sure.

Help! Pulley Issues?
bheinen74 replied to Kerplunk105's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwas the idler pulley a brand new one, and then that got destroyed, or was it a used one. how tight are you putting the belt? maybe too tight. or else you have a AC compressor seizing up. saw your post on the other board with pics.

83 subaru convertible
bheinen74 replied to johnceggleston's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhile this car was never made by the Subaru factory, it does exist. An aftermarket company hacksawed chopped off the roof and put a cheap fabric top on them. Pretty hacked up job. There are pics floating around.

Newb paint questions - changing color, costs..
bheinen74 replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXresale value will be lower if you change it and dont do the door jams and firewall, engine bay area. White shows little spots of rust the worst out of all colors too. I remember going to a car show one day, and they had a pretty decent looking Chevelle all nice, but the hood and trunk was propped up and the outside of the car was a blueish gray, but the underside of hood and trunk, and firewall was a puke barf green color. Made the car look HORRIBLE

bheinen74 replied to robm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwho told you this? look under the hood, over near the driver side firewall. should be right there. you gotta pull the engine out and take out the steering wheel to change it though..... Just Kidding. it should be easy to change, hard part will be pulling off the several hoses which they make hose pliers for that type of thing to twist and grab to pull off. its a good idea to release the pressure from the pump, to do this, disconnect the connector to the fuel pump., start car it will run about a few seconds with no pressure til it dies. then there pressure is gone- Softopper, for a Brat?
- 98 Legacy Outback -- Need compatibility details
aggree. both cars sound BADLY neglected, and neutered to never be worth really saving in my opinion. once neutered, never will be the same. I am sure you are getting these for free or else a few bucks, so if you have plenty of time, then you will for sure end up witha BIG pile of $$$$ into these in the end because the previous owner so badly neglected them, there is bound to be MANY other things wrong besides the obvious, might as well buy a decent one to begin with./ "The 98 needs the rear diff parts and a brake job where the 96 needs a HG and framework done." both are MONEY PITS- ea81 needs new HGs, what else should I do?
yeah if its got 390k on it and runs good, keep running it, change oil regularly etc. see how high the mileage will go. save the low mileage baby.- which lights will light the road better
bheinen74 replied to bheinen74's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXah, the legality. hmmm. well, I am still driving around with my BRAT and the Cyclops light on waiting for mister officer to say I cant do that. - 99lego lifted at last.....bumper too! now with STRUT BLOCK PICS!
