Brat's front diff problem
dont grab the left tire when it is spinning. make sure the car is off, and brace a pry bar or steel tube/bolt either thru the vent of the rotor so it is locked against the caliper, or somehow else. On an open diff, this is the correct function, not both will be spinning at the same time, sometimes it may but not neccessarily.

Brat's front diff problem
yes ebrake on the EA81 is to the fronts. not sure how you can test t safely, but try to lock the front left wheel (pry bar thru the caliper/studs or something) and then see if the right wheel is spinning without the noises and catches. its an open diff, so only one can spin at a time with any force.

Welding My Diff.......
not a good move if you drive any on the road, as driving on the road you have to pull out 1 rear axle to drive on hard surface. reason-when making a turn, the inside wheel turns faster than the outside wheel, and a locked (welded) diff, with one axle turning faster than the other on turns, you will break your axle. it cannot take the twist difference

Stealerships replacing heat sheilds??
bheinen74 replied to shortlid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI know of really good stealership sales places that sold someone new brakes a few years ago. when i inspected their work a few months later, there were definitely no new brakes on the car. that place also couldnt figure out out to reboot an axle, and forced the person to buy a new axle. that place also did not install a battery correctly, the hold down hooks weren't in place correctly. that place was not familiar with a Subaru....most places around here are the same when it comes to Subarus

15 inch rims and tires getting hard to find
try to find tires for the 2010 legacy GT. That car comes standard with hi-performance summer only tires, in 18" size. yeah, dumb move by subaru, not offering it with all season. wonder what they are thinking these days....

Heater problem
you probably have air in the system. to burp the air, jack up the front of the car, or park it so the nose of the car is higher than the butt. Turn heater selection to hottest, with heater set to on. add coolant to the radiator, and squeeze your radiator hoses to allow air to come out. Drive car to operating temp, let cool, top off the antifreeze, again with heater selected to hottest and the nose higher than the butt. . might need to repeat the run for a short while , cool off, top off, cycle

Home Made Roof Rack
where would one get free bed frames like that. I got a plan to fence more of my yard in for the dogs, and that would work real nice attached to posts along the yard perimeter

Snow Tires Overkill For Midwest?
bheinen74 replied to schlit's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmy best advice for Iowa residents is to buy a set of snows, drive the backroads when its slick, and to stay off the interstate during times of snow. People buzz thru on the Interstate at 85-90 when its icy out there, I like to stay as far away from that road as possible. Its almost always shutdown due to accidents with even a inch or so of snow, mostly due to out of staters buzzing thru, still using the cruisie control on Ice and wrecking.

Stealerships replacing heat sheilds??
bheinen74 replied to shortlid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXshes lucky she didn't go to the dealership in DM iowa. They probably would have talked her into payments on a new car as well after she dropped to the floor on their pricing for those services. Your dealer is CHEAP compared to the one here- i will never go to the dealer i am referring to, hope they read this board.

SVX Research
bheinen74 replied to 9098's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhttp://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/ they did not have any head gasket issues, the one in 500 cars if not properly cared for may have had a hg issue, othersiwe that eg33 is pretty much a longevity king similar to the gen1 ej22 engine. bearings on the rear struts that get weak (heavy car) transmissions that go out all the time windshields that are pricey (1.2k plus, they have a titanium coating in them) early models had alarm system failures of the security brain droopy visors climate control that is finicky at times parts that are not hard to get, but hard to change, most shops do not have the expertise to correctly fix anything on these cars. etc.

'99 OB Sport questions
should be the ej22 interference block. 99 Impreza Sport wagons had that engine, but in 00 they went to the ej25 i believe.

Ken Block - trax
would have been cooler if it was on a BRAT. the steering ability looked pretty troubled.

YABHG (Yet Another Blown Head Gasket)
bheinen74 replied to theidealist's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthat does make sense. we have old gen, we have newer gen, and there should be a category, called "headgaskets on the ej25"

What's an '86 BRAT worth?
i know of at least 4 or 5 that cannot be repaired. SubieMech 85 has one that is folded down in the center, kinda like a taco shell. the only metal that is there is flaked rust, not even tissue paper thin. you can't weld reinforcements to bondo.

What is this?
