Pulling engine for Head gaskets, What else should I do?
bheinen74 replied to pi_1980's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXdoubt a 2.2 has a headgasket oil leak as well. check everything from oil pressure sensor, cam seals, valve cover grommits, etc. The EJ22 just doesnt commonly leak oil on a headgasket... If you get talked into a headgasket replacement when its not needed, then you blow away alot of unneccessary money, when something cheap might be the fix. If you have the 2.5 EJ25, then yeah i would never say what i have said.

Jessekrs123's 1984 Subaru BRAT
New buyer picked up the 98 RS at 7am today and took it with his trailer. Went to the Nascar Nationwide race today. Fun time, tailgated in the BRAT. Today I pulled off the Continental Snow Kings winter snow tires, installed my summer tires. the mud you see is from the parking lot at the Iowa Speedway we have had rain lately, but the race was dry. 35 miles east of the race, they got 20 minutes of hail marble sized.

$600 Brat
around here, we cannot simply wait it out, BRATS are extinct, when they come up, they are all asking 1800 and rotted. Any 600 Dollar BRAT is a great deal. Any BRAT for less than 1g is a deal, even if rotted. They are extinct.

$600 Brat
if they run, on their own power, yes 600 is a good deal. I will buy unlimited running BRATS, any year, if they are 600 with title. Yes, as many as are available and complete i offer that for them. Must have titles. I think i have it down how many more BRATS exist within a 450 mile circle around me. There are not more than 15 available.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
for my BRAT: Painted the beds metal strip that would hold carpet down if you have carpet. I painted it white to match the wagon wheels and the front brushquard. Also, took out the driver side lower 4wd dummy plate, and replaced it with the step plate from the right side of my former parts BRAT. So now, both side have the step plate for getting into the jumpseats. No modification steps were needed for this, plug and play. Also removed the BRAT cap earlier, summer time yay. Reinstalled the jumpseat i removed way back for hauling stuff.

In need of subrfame replacement. (pictures) Who's done it?
we don't have inspections ever, not a thing they do around here, because nobodies car would pass after 6 yrs of winter driving.

Most cars on the road over 7 years old are like this around here. It is not limited to Subarus. Some shops won't even touch some cars, cause they can't put them on a hoist with out the car folding in half (yes i have seen cars fold in half before) the old citations and cavaliers of the day....

2003 Subaru Forester | violent engine shake, idle | stalls out wont accelerate
bheinen74 replied to Shera1231's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXsounds like some sort of CEL without a light being flashed. Might be a number of sensors from knock sensor to coolant temp sensor. could also be a sporadic IACV You can get a code reader from harbor freight for less then 50 bucks using coupon codes.

Getting 10mpg with Weber. Please help!
redline does not have a good reputation, someone there needs to get better. did you seal the adapter well, and block off the coolant passageway? Is your choke functioning correctly.

In need of subrfame replacement. (pictures) Who's done it?
sort of related, someone on the west coast could make decent money cutting sections out for us rust belt folks and marketing them to us as needed.

If you can do all the work yourself (welding, etc) you can be okay. If you have to pay someone to do the work, it would be better off to pull off the good parts, and wait for a rustfree shell to show up from west coast. Thats why we junk em. But for an 87, thats really pretty good still. If that was me, i would weld in tubular steel NEXT to the rotted rails, and make brakckets from the new tubes lated to the subframe mounts, trans crossmembers, seatbelt mount.

contary to what you installed *Weber Carb 32/34** those Webers are not designed for fuel economy, they are a performance carb. The stock one is more efficient by quite a bit, even if the weber is tuned perfectly, a fresh stock carb will give better mpg. You could bump the timing one more degree depending on how you drive it and if you use consistent same gas all the time.\ add another 1-2psi per tire. make sure brakes are well serviced, and nothing is sticking. If you have a roof rack, take it off.

*UPDATE* Gonna have to drill it out.
then you need to pull off axle and rotate 180...... yes it is possible to still drive the pin in, but if you pull off axle and rotate 180 it will line up perfect.
-
*UPDATE* Gonna have to drill it out.
can you turn that axle 90degrees counterclockwise, and show the pic looking down into the hole
-
*UPDATE* Gonna have to drill it out.
are you using a roll pin punch, or a regular tapered punch?
-
*UPDATE* Gonna have to drill it out.
At some point, I would say grind the end off, and try using a punch to punch it back in the other direction and remove on the other end. have you used good vice grips and a slide hammer to them? I think maybe it was installed 180 off.

Higher ride for 2005 Legacy?
bheinen74 replied to brus brother's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmy parents went to a 16" wrx rim; chose to not stay with their stock lo profile 17" on their 06 Legacy 2.5i Then they chose a tire size 205/60/16 giving them about a half inch taller tire. Ride is much better. Tires are cheaper. holds the road better, less wandering. narrower tire gives better winter snow traction. Then my dad put 1" spacers under the front topmounts so he can get his shop jack under the front bumper. Its the little things that can be done.
