  1. If you have a sedan, pull up the rear seat and check the connector there. They have a tendency to heat up and melt.
  2. Doesn't have to be DOHC to be interference. But yes, the EJ22T's are non-interference. Every subaru engine up to 1997 (not including the 2.5) is non-interference.
  3. Cost would probably be in the $1000-$1500 range, or maybe even less if you did it yourself. Most of that price is labor.
  4. I'd be willing to bet he has the leak from the neck. That's a fairly common one.
  5. Actually, that isn't true. All the old crate engines are chains and they aren't interference.
  6. Crank or Cam position sensors. Assuming it's not a hot start issue.
  7. Don't bother replacing the boot. Who knows how long it's been contaminated. Either drive around as it stands or have the entire halfshaft replaced.
  8. EZ30 is an interesting engine though. As I recall, it has a timing chain, whereas all other EJ/EG engines have belts.
  9. JDM Legacies have the closed deck EJ20G or EJ20TT. There are no stock EJ22TT's.
  10. The sensor below the PCV is the Coolant Temperature sensor - used by the ECU. The Thermostat (on the front of the engine) determines if the fans come on or not.
  11. Looks like an EJ20G. That engine is DOHC. No EJ22 comes stock with DOHC.
  12. No. This change wasn't made until 1996/97. In 1996, the EJ22 moved to a single port exhaust design. In 1997, the shape of the piston was reformed to give it a little more HP. Also in 1996/97 (weird years) there was a change to solid lifters instead of the HLA's like on the 89-95/96 years. The 1st gen (OBDI) is 1989-1994 in the US.
  13. 205 seems a bit wide. Then again, I think my car has 185's so.... I'd just put them on and see if they rub. If they don't, then you're set.
  14. Why do I think he's going to rice the car out? Look at the title, his goals, and that he went to NASIOC first. Legacycentral has lots and lots of good information, but we don't respond well to people whose first post is "What can I do to get more power!?" and their goals are just putting on big turbos and wings and being ricey.
  15. Yes and no. EJ22's in 1995 were OBDII driven, but physically they're the same. There are no EJ22TT's. Only EJ22T's. Look, if you're going to rice the car out, don't bother going to http://bbs.legacycentral.org. Ricers are not well responded to. And, don't go to NASIOC, they're all ricers.
  16. You can't. EJ20TT engines only fit RHD cars.
  17. Hey Ben, if you do manage to come up here to CVM (that place sucks, I know it well), take a look out back. You'll find almost every generation of Subaru sitting in the back lot. All the mechanics own Subarus . There was even an Ebony Pearl sitting back there when I was there a few months ago.
  18. Oh man. Is it a EJ20 TT? If it is, be prepared for one heck of a ride. They don't tend to have engine issues and they're hella fast. If it checks out, I'd snap it up.
  19. Be on the lookout for HG issues if the car hasn't had them replaced already. You have about a 10-15% chance of having issue - according to nipper's statistic. Otherwise, it's a strong car.
  20. Grossgary is right. At that mileage, there's no benefit. Besides, the synthetic will just leak all over the place and you'll have to fill it up more often.
  21. Did you break the brakes in correctly? That would cause squeeling.
  22. I think that TC lockup is mechanical, not electronic. So, a mod like like that would create some major havoc. Any particular reason you want to kill TC lockup?
